The chainstay bridge is pretty far away from the wheel on these old frames.  I'm about to install new fenders to replace the beat-up and butchered old ones I used for far too long.  I am thinking I'll just use a lengthy cylindrical bolt spacer to run from the bridge to the fender, but that seems like it will move around a lot.  If you have put fenders on one of these, what do you use?

Thanks,
Harth

Harth, I made these out of a piece industrial leather belting, I bought it for making long wearing mocassin soles. Its 8 mm thick, I have used multiples, with large fender washers they are stable. Steve

Oh yeah, that is thick leather, Steven.  So you also use it to run a long bolt from the chainstay bridge to the fender?

Yes, with as many as 3 pieces.

Got it.  Thanks.  That gives me an option to look for.

Harth,

From one All-Rounder owner to another, if you measure how long of a spacer you need to bridge that gap, I may be able to send you a brass M5 standoff of the correct length with M5 male and M5 female ends. Kind of like this. BTW, because All-Rounders have semi-horizontal dropouts (at least mine does), you actually don't want to have too nice of a fender line or you may not be able to remove the rear wheel without deflating the tire.

I use standoffs with success on a few bikes to adjust the fender line (not my All-Rounder, which is currently fenderless):

Oh, I have not heard of such a thing as a stand off!  Nice.  That looks like it would be more stable than the spacer I was considering.  I'll begin the process and see what length I need, Benz.  Thank you for your generous offer either way.  It is much appreciated.

What great little doodahs. Just ordered a few of varying lengths just to have fun with them.

Benz, thanks for that recommendation. I've used aluminum spacers or leather but the hex standoffs are really classy. Good to have a variety of doodads on hand when installing fenders!

Best,

Same plans, to mount fenders on a Riv AR with horizontal dropouts, and unequal distances between the bridges.  I'd planned to use a cork to space from the chain stay bridge, think it's going to be a fairly long piece, so while the leather would be ideal, it may take many strips to bridge the divide.

Inserting a spacer will work.  Here's picture from my Sam.  The spacer is sandwiched between 2 leather pads.  Good luck!
