Not sure when it was added, but I just noticed the Zefal "Lock'n'Roll"
anti-theft QR skewers for sale on Riv's website:
http://www.rivbike.com/#product=18-304

Sounds like an awesome idea! I'd be curious to hear if anyone's tried
them. I loath to lock up my Atlantis in SF, and this might help me
worry a little less about those wheels I built. Now, the next
question is, of course: "what about the saddle?" Fact is, Zefal's
apparently already thought of that. According to their website, they
sell a set with a skewer for the saddle too. You can buy it here:
http://www.xxcycle.com/php/boutique/page.php?nom=PRODUITpp&key=5905&FROM=froogle

Now I wonder why Riv doesn't sell that one? It looks like the saddle
skewer might not fit in a Riv? I sure hope not...

I lock up my Atlantis often in SF, as well as my Quickbeam and Canti-Rom.  You need to pick your spot, certainly, and cable lace the wheels.  That said, have you looked at the pit-lock system sold by Peter White?  I think that's a better locking system.  Pricey, but tougher to bust.

The Pitlocks are nice looking - anyone know if the seatpost lock will
fit on my Atlantis?

The Zefal doo-dads are very interesting. When do they come in silver?

The pitlock seatpost binder is not compatible with Rivendell frames.
In fact, they're not compatible with much.

Just got the word from Spencer at Rivendell: the Zefal seat post
things ARE compatible and they are for sale:
http://www.rivbike.com/products/list/saddles_and_seat_posts#product=11-002

wc.

Good question. Maybe the black will polish off...

Note however that I still haven't seen anyone stress test these. For
now at least, I'd still recommend cable locking the wheels...

I just put them on the bleriot. They function as intended - you can't
work the quick release until the bike get's flipped over. As far as
the strength goes, I gave it a serious, braced against the wall pull
just to check them out, and it didn't budge.

I'm sure that a motivated bike thief (with an appropriately shaped
lever) could do a better job on deconstructing the mechanism. But a
motivated bike thief can snip cables too. It does what it's supposed
to, and what most bike locking systems do: it makes it less convenient
to steal the bike/wheel, not impossible.

Would like them in silver, tho.

Does anyone know what the mechanism is made of? Maybe I need to buy
one and find out if a magnet will 'flip' the internal switch.

I have pitlock skewers. I was unable to get the pitlock seat post
binders to work on several of my bikes, however. So I just ordered a
couple of the Zefal binders. Will report back once they arrive.

The pitlock seatpost binders are designed to work with bicycles that
use the old style q/r binder bolt. Works great on my 84 Stumpjumper
and on a similar vintage Trek MTB that I worked on. They don't
generally work with seatpost clamps that are not part of the frame,
and they don't tend to work on integral clamps that are designed to be
used with a bolt.

The pit lock skewer works on one of my bikes that has a binder post
that juts straight back from the seat tube similar to those by many of
the post war Italian builders and the steel lugged Treks.

Do not work on a custom with the new style collar around the seat tube
and the other which has a fastback style seat cluster.

Just disovered I bent the Pitlock shaft on my seatpost binder. Didn't
think I was tightening it up _that_ much. Did find a 5mm bolt that
seems to work better on that bike.

If two bikes didn't have Pitlocks already, would try a set of the
Zefal.
