I like stem shifters. I have two bikes set with them, and will possibly convert my Atlantis from DT to stem shifting.  On my Gomez, I followed Rene's lead and used a set of Paul Thumbies to carry Shimano BE shifters. Works very well, and looks very clean.

Here's a shot of a vintage SunTour set on my Bleriot:

and a poor shot of a set of Shimano shifters mounted to Paul Thumbies that I have set up on my Gomez:

I was just thinking to post a question about these. GF bought a pair for her Homer and they're really good, but I have a little problem with set-up. I just took the Silver shifters off the bar-end mounts and stuck them straight on the IRD "thingy". Only problem is, I had to tighten the wingnut down pretty tight to stop the derailer slipping, and now the lever action is not terribly easy. Also the lever was a little wobbly before I put the cable in (tension from the cable stopped that). I guess I did something wrong with the installation, has anyone else tried it and got any tips?

P.S. William—sorry to steal your thread ;)

Those are cool, Ray.  The thing that I particularly like about this IRD product is that it gives you an inline barrel adjuster.  If you have a Sam, a Betty, a Bleriot, or any other bike with hosing stops on the downtube, then this is one of the ways to get yourself a barrel adjuster that you can adjust while riding.
