Greetings all!

This will be a fun weekend put on by the Cub House bicycle/plant shop in Pasadena, CA. A mixed terrain ride May 18th with 27, 38, and 62 mile options. Lots and lots of climbing for all of them. Bike and car show the next day on Sunday!

Details Here: https://www.losangelesinvitational.com/

Anyone else planning on going?

I just signed up, will aim for the full route, 10,000ft and all. I'm likely going to ride my hardtail mountain bike, as I'm trying to dial it in for an upcoming international tour. However, I am considering putting some knobbies on my Platypus and seeing how it handles such a demanding route. Plus it's just always fun to pass people in kits on fancy drop-bar bikes with an odd-ball bike. :)

Gonna be an amazing weekend, especially since the people from Blue Lug are headed out. Armand, I don't have the legs/lungs to do 10K of climbing but I'll be cheering you on at rollout on Saturday. I hope you have a great ride.

I'm looking forward to the swap meet and car show. Fun times!

Armand is not getting me to sign up for the triple scoop. Even the single scoop option sounds brutal enough to me, with 4100 ft elevation gain over 27 miles, but Tony, I'll suffer through it with you if you want to try the single scoop!

I did the double scoop last year on my Atlantis! Would love to see all of you there again next weekend. The vibe is usually impeccable. Also there's a special Thursday-night basket ride with the Blue Lug folks, which should be a good time.

@Brian -- Haha, if by double scoop, you mean to swing by Jones' coffee for some Fosselman's ice cream, I'm with you brother!!  (:

@Neale -- I'll definitely be there on Sunday, and intermittently on Saturday (as time permits). Kinda want to buy a Cub House hoodie, so this'll be the perfect excuse to stop by. Keep me posted if you do the basket ride....currently trying to schedule childcare so I can attend.  /tony-crosses-fingers

Armand, you gotta do it on the platy! now that you've finished building it up, what a perfect chance to get some paint chips from the triple scoop

hope you can share some of the experience on here for us poor souls unable to get out there for the weekend

It’s too far for me, and I have early Mother’s day plans with my son and his wife, but have fun

Just realized it’s next weekend, but my reservation about its being too long a ride still stands

I'll be visiting from Seattle to attend the Sunday event, as well as pick up my Atlantis that I bought from a fellow list member. And if there's anyone on here who's driving from the OC area to Pasadena for Saturday's ride, I'd love to tag along! I imagine it's a long shot, but I'd love to do some riding while i'm there and the single scoop would be the perfect excuse.

@Neale & Armand:    How did it go today? How are those legs feeling? Was hoping to be Riv's unofficial Paparazzi at rollout this morning, but ended up doing some beach camping instead. When I got back into town this afternoon, I drove by the Cub House and saw cyclists everywhere with Pizzanista boxes. Guessing you guys had a blast.

I'm gonna swing by tomorrow for the swap meet and car show. Hoping to score a derailer and a patina'd bell...maybe talk to someone who can give me tips on rack building and brazing. Will post up a few bike culture pics to encourage Ted to move to the west coast.  ;)

I had a blast! Did the triple scoop and it was a beast, took me all day. The aid station at the top of the single scoop was a mountaintop party. I saw Armand and a few other Riv riders. Lots of other cool bikes, and plenty of good vibes.

Wow, I had no idea there were trails connecting Mt Wilson and Glendora. That looks like an amazing (ly difficult) ride!

Ted - it was the Rincon Red Box road the entire way. Puts you out on 39 a little above the reservoir. My first time doing anything in that area. It was tough but none of the grade or surfaces were unreasonable - just long and a lot of climbing.

The ride was fantastic. I had an engagement in the evening so I ended up doing the double scoop. Getting above the marine layer was surreal! See the pic below at the top of mt. disappointment. Was really great to see so many people come out on the ride, with a solid handful of Riv's on the ride too! Great to see you Neal, props for doing the full route.

Put some knobbies on the Platy and really enjoying riding it. Pushed the limits of spirited riding on dirt on the descent with it, challenging to keep enough weight on the front end for traction up front in the corners but it was very smooth and predictable for a rigid bike on 48's. Will definitely be dropping down my 28t chainring to a 26t I have in the parts bin (11-34 cassette).

I've got a campsite at Parson's Landing on Catalina June 18-19 if anyone wants to get in on it.

48s? Try 38s!

The ride, route and vibes really were all fantastic.

The final 10mile descent to the 39 was out of this world.

This vibes and views look incredible!  As an east-coaster, this terrain is the stuff dreams are made of.

Anyone willing to share a RWGPS link for either the double or triple scoop routes?  I found some from '23 but not sure if it's been improved meaningfully since.

Cheers
David

Ha awesome meeting you Matt. Love that photo! Thanks so much for sharing, I don't keep social media on my phone so would have never seen it. Loved your Susie :)
