I'm intrigued by the handlebar in this promo video.  Looks promising.  I need a black handlebar for one of my bikes.

Looks like the MAP/Ahearne bar would fit the bill. It comes in black.

MAP/Ahearne was my first suspect.  But this handlebar has wider straight region in the center (i.e. left and right of the clamp).

Hope it is not an optical illusion I'm seeing.

I recognize it, that's a Surly Open bar. Note the larger curve radius and the greater sweep back angle(53deg) than the Ahearne bar(41deg). It's also wider @ 66cm. If I get a Clem or -L this is thar bar I will get. It comes in back or silver with or w/o 40mm rise, and it's steel so I can run bar end brake levers. I had seen many a photos and angles of this bar over the last months so it was an easy spot.

Bingo!   You get the prize.

Now I definitely need one of these.  Just wish they had avoided the temptation to use the handlebar like a billboard to print their logo..

Thank you Garth.

Blackcloud,

I can confirm that it is not Origin 8 Classique Tour.  Because I own one :)

Thanks Ron!

Wow that's quite a knowledge base on ergonomic handlebars.

Just wondering how many of them I will end up trying!

Hooray !  Glad you know now Ash.  I did forget that it's black only, sort of a bummer but not a deal breaker on it's own. As for the logo, they are ED coated black so the logo is likely painted on top of that. Some acetone, goof-off, wd-40 or finger nail polish should remove it.

Sooo, for those playing along at home, it is definitely the Surly Open Bar?  I am the queen of ALt bars and can't seem to try enough of them.  My next bar is going to be the FSA Metropolis on my Seven Café Racer replacing the Bosco bars.  Definitely not the Ahearnes - although that is nice one.

Here is a thread posting various sweep back angles of some bars that may or may not be well known.

FSA Metropolis looks worth trying!

Added to my ever-growing handlebar bucket list.

I actually just ordered a FSA Metropolis for my Seven Cafe Racer. I'm looking forward to trying it. Been considering it for some time now

Sadly I won't have an opportunity to spend another $50 on handlebars because Metropolis because it is 31.8mm clamp diameter. (I don't know if a dirt drop like quill stem with 31.8 clamp)

Make it $170, because I would have tried Jones H loop too if it was 25.4

I have three pair of Metropolis bars because they are my ultimate bar. After paring down my bikes to one Brompton and one Rivendell, the FSA's are sitting in a parts bin. I figure some day I will use them again. I did purchase the Map/Ahearne bars for the Riv because they resemble the Metropolis bars but I have to install them because I am really liking the Albatross. If I ever go with a custom bike I will build it around the Metropolis bars, they are that good.

I'm intrigued, as I'm looking for a new upright bar. What specifically do you like so much about the Metropolis? Are there improvements over the MAP or similar bar?

Eric beware that the Metropolis is only available in a 31.8. That is why for me only my Seven will accommodate those bars

What I like about the Metropolis is the angle of my wrist, it seems just a natural position for my hands. I should also add that I used Ergon grips to make the bar even more comfortable. The bar has a slight rise or if you want a more cafe style, mount it the other way. The flats after the bends are a great place for your hands or forearms for one more position with this style of bar. The bar is stiff with no noticeable flex.

Here is a link to the comparison between the Map/Ahearne bar with the FSA Metropolis

Thanks Chris. I didn't make that clear in my original post so I am glad you clarified this. This is the reason I haven't used them on my Riv is because of the size. That is why I purchased the Map/Ahearne for the quill stem that I own.

I've got a pair (Surly Open Bar) I'd be willing to sell.  Like new condition.  They were installed on a bike for about a week.

I made a poor man's version of loop bar for my recent 6-hour trip by adding some old bar end grips to Alba. I think I used the loop area for about 20% of the times.  Ideally for a long frame like Appa with some load, the loop needs to be wider.

I do think overall it looks ugly, but an option upright bar users can consider for long trips.  esp for those who feel the reach is not long enough with Chocos.
