Tropical Storm Bertha was a nothing burger.  Didn’t even put off my morning ride. At 5:00 am, ambient temperature was 80 degrees with a heat index of 90!!( it did cool us off)

Brought rain gear & a baseball cap to keep most of the sprinkle off my glasses.  Headed south for usual ride but it tends to rain more in that swampy area, not to mention I was starting out with a 23-mph tailwind. So headed north & east, into the wind & away from the rain. We hardly ever get an east wind.

When I turned around a 23-mph tailwind helped make the joyous sound of 2-inch tires eating up the blacktop.

Pulled into the garage just in time to miss the serious rainbands.

You should try kayak fishing a storm tide.
A few Octobers ago, we were fishing the draining 4' storm tide from TS Beta.
When we got to the tide pass, the bait was so thick, they were bumping our hulls, and you could feel them hitting the rudder through your feet.

Redfish on the half shell, all you need is Tony Chachere seasoning, butter, lemon and garlic.  YUM !

Takes more nerve to go Kayak fishing in a TS than a bike ride!

Bernard, we don't fish in the wind (mostly - we've braved some 30-kt days in sheltered sloughs.
When the TS makes landfall 100 mi up the coast (east), all we get are storm tides down the coast - even rain bands can't make it all the way around.
The canal house we rented - the dock across the canal is submerged by the storm tide.  For us, it made for easy kayak mount.

Lunch Beach on Talley Is. was mid-thigh deep - normal fall bull tides, there's still a skinny beach here.  Good hard-pack to get out of the boat, even when it's swamped...
