I'm looking for a quality, silver, and pretty skewer that will clamp hard enough to long, (thickish) plate dropouts to hold the axle in place under the immense torque of my pedaling.

I believe (be sure to correct me if I am wrong) that 126 mm OL skewers will work fine, and I would love to have an old Dura Ace skewer like that I have on my Riv gofast.

Again, must have enough threading to accommodate an axle 6 mm shorter than that on a 126 mm OL hub. Must be strong, must be silver, must be pretty. If you have something like this, name your price.

I have been using old internal cam, 135 mm OL XT skewers (those with the rubber caps on the levers) on my 130 mm OL Riv, and I'll be happy to swap in full or part trade -- probably part. These do work very well.

BTW, this is for the new Chauncey Riv clone which is to be done with baking today, I think, so build shortly, God willing. The dropouts look cut from thickish plate; must ask Chauncey. They're thinner than, say, 1010s, for the sake of the short axle on the AM hub.

In case it's not clear, the bike is designed to use a fixed wheel as the main wheel (fixed = main? Of course!) with the AM wheel as an occasional wheel.

And finally, btw, as to a 120 mm OL fixed hub: narrowed the choice down to Surly flip flop and the VO fixed fixed; the Surly fixed fixed is no longer made and not carried by the usual LBS suppliers, apparently. The VO is very nice, but while it has a hollow axle, it is meant for bolts; and while it could be cut, the Surly axle is both hollow and internally threaded for 6 mm bolts, in case none of youse come through.

Thanks.

Hi Patrick -

I was presented with a similar problem when I got a new rear wheel for my Quickbeam. I got a NOS Campy skewer. The threads allow me to clamp my wheel very tightly in the beefy dropouts of the Quickbeam. I got mine from Boulder Bicycle. They appear to be out of Campy skewers - but have a few NOS Gipiemme skewers for $12 - 15. Not sure if the threads on the Gipiemme skewers will allow you to get down to the place you need - but the threads appear to be similar to the Campy skewers.

I would send mail (or call) Boulder Bicycle and ask them to measure the threads. I have dealt with them several times. They have always provided outstanding service.

Namaste,

Corwin
