I have an early Romulus (RM029) that I don't ride much and I am
considering selling it since I also own a Rambouillet. I am trying to
get an idea of the value before I list it, as O may keep it for my son
(he's only 11, but he's growing like a weed).

I am the second owner, so I'm not sure what the year is, but it is the
earlier model with sidepull brakes. The spec is largely stock with Nitto
drops, Sugino cranks, Shimano 105 derailleurs, and ____ wheels. The
tires are now Pasela TourGuard 700x35s (front brand new) and has brand
new bar tape. I would guess that it only has a couple thousand miles on
it at most.

I would rate the overall condition as good due to several paint
scratches (mostly out of the way) and one small dent in the top tube
(still not sure when that occured). The downtube decals are starting to
peel but I have new replacements that I just received. It will not come
with a saddle or pedals.

If anyone is willing to give me their 2 cents on a value range I would
appreciate it.

thanks

Kevin

I'd say it's worth in the ballpark of $1000 provided it doesn't need anything replaced in order to render it rideable.

If it's got lots of snazzy bags and racks on it, it could be worth even more.  People are delighted to pick up a used Rambouillet for ~$1200, and the Romulus is only slightly less valuable, in my view.  Best of luck!

$1000 seems reasonable starting place. What size is it? Size can
impact sale value, too since your pool of potential customers changes
based on the size.

Hi Kevin,

As a reference point (not meant to discourage!), I couldn't get any
interest in my good condition 63 canti-Rom as a bike with Phil/Schmidt
wheels for $950 or as a frameset for $550. That was 4 years ago,
though, and I decided to keep it rather than cut the price further. I
had paid $600 for the slightly used frameset in 2005. The tall size
probably gave it a smaller potential market.

It came out in 2003, and was only made for one year.

Kevin,
search completed eBay sales to estimate comps. If you want to sell it quickly, ask 20% less. If you want top $$$,, put it in as good condition as you can, and try to sell it here or on CL.  Happy 1st day o'spring. gdday 2 sella bike.
