Not only has it been climbing into the mid-90's this week in the Great Lakes states, but now smoke from Canadian wildfires is drifting down here as well.  It sucks!!  Anyone out riding in this stuff?

When we had AQIs in the yellow and above I didn’t ride, in DC a few years ago it was pretty bad.  Airnow.gov still saved on my phone for it.  Fun fact: I helped build the infrastructure that airnow runs on, RIP 18F.  But no, I don’t feel the risk is worth it personally, good time to catch up on chores or bike maintenance.

California in general and the Bay Area in particular is unusually cool.  Today we may have a high in the 70s in El Cerrito, but the forecast doesn't have us getting into the 70s again for the next two weeks.

We canceled our Tuesday morning ride for the El Nino monsoon.
It swirled over the Hill Country for 3 days, pinned by Arctic and Gulf air masses.  Yesterday it rained another foot+ on the Hill Country.  Today, it's turning north before it gets here.
I'm riding the greenway summit tomorrow with cloud cover and a temperature respite.

Thanks for the tip on airnow.gov. For those of us in southeast Michigan it confirms the obvious: our current AQI is 578, just a bit better than the 689 reading in the western UP where I spent last weekend. The next day or so are expected to be in the same range. I guess we have to be best at something.
My next move will be to cancel tomorrow's ride.

The smoke has actually made it down here to South Carolina. But, just enough to give a slight haze and make for some pretty sunrises/sunsets. It dipped down to the low 90’s, but will soon be back to high 90’s with a ~107 heat index(according to the weather girl). I ride in this every day, back and forth to work. And apparently I’m also, according to a Will newsletter, one of those obnoxious guys that gets up absurdly early to go on a bike ride.

Hi George. I am scheduled to join a bunch of friends this Friday - Sunday @ “Meet Me in Manchester” bike camping trip. Plan was to ride Friday late afternoon from Ann Arbor to camp in Manchester - 28 miles. Then on Saturday there are no less than five different routes available to ride from 32 to 100 miles. I’d planned on the 50 mile option. Then a return ride on Sunday morning. As of now the rides to & from have been cancelled due to this crap. Hoping to still get in a nice ride on Saturday bookended by two nights camping.

Richard, pray for strong Southwest winds and lower temps and have a great riding experience!
