I bought a 56 proto-Bombadil that RBW was selling last week. I built
it up today with whatever I had on hand so I could ride it. I'll be
changing a few things, like adding a front derailer so my fingers
don't get greasy shifting. It's a blast to ride -- smooth over the
rough stuff, rails corners, and it has all those handy braze-ons for
luggage capacity.

Here are a few pics, including a couple shots from another recent ride
on Diablo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/20986098@N04/sets/72157631930173444/with/8155803596/

happy trails!

Looks awesome. I have to say kicking myself for having missed this one as by the time I checked the Site it was gone. I think the 56 parallel tt model Bombadil is almost as rare as the legolas. I have the 52 and love it but for $900 definitely would have taken a chance that the 56 would fit. Live and learn, and ride, Haha.

wh-AT?!! right on, Good Sir!

hey- send or txt me your new-ish cell number. My phone finally died,
and I lost any phone numbers from the last couple years...

well played - those hunqadils are pretty solid and I think, in a long
view, inspired bikes...

Hard to pare down when folks keep raising the ante- I'm preparing to
put the Trek 720 on the chopping block...

congrats
=- Joe

You're killin' me, Jim. That 48 Proto is still there, and I still don't have another spare 900 bucks lying around after my recent - and still not built - Saluki purchase. Oy!

And as an added bonus, the proto doesn't have lawyer lips, though mine has an odd 26.8 seatpost.

Took it on its first commute today. There's a radar sign on the way. I'm just as fast on the Bomba as on my previous skinnier tire commute bike, not that speed matters of course.
