I am seeing significantly less expensive rates using shipbikes vs. bikeflights for the same size/weight box...whether insurance is included or not.  I've used bikeflights many times, with no issues (including 1 time I had to make an insurance claim).

Has anyone had a negative experience on shipbikes?

Thanks,
Tom

It depends on the from/to and the actual box dimensions. Sometimes they are very similar, other times not so similar. I recently shipped a large frame and fork from NY to CA via Shipbikes and saved $30 over the bikeflights quote.

I was skeptical of shipbikes.com at first- mostly due to their simple website and no brand recognition.

I only shipped a frame and parts from SLC to Denver- but their rate was low enough it was worth the risk.

Sure enough, everything was fine!

Hope that helps...

I've used ShipBikes four or five times. Easy peasy.

I, too, have used ShipBikes four or five times in the past several years. No problems at all.

I'm starting to shift over to Shipbikes after shipping many, many bikes and frames with Bikeflights. Mostly, I like my Fedex office better than my UPS office; dropoffs are more convenient with Shipbikes. It does seem to be generally cheaper as well.

I have been using shipbikes for years with no issues. They are usually cheaper than bike flights.

Thanks for everyone's input.  Shipbikes seems like a safe bet.

Shipbikes is a div of LICKTONS, one of the oldest and most reputable bike shops in the Chicago area. Bob Lickton has been enmeshed in the bicycle industry his entire life and knows what he's doing.

A great character, emphasis on character!

These companies are just expeditors, so really the only two issues are 1 / cost and 2 / who you'd rather have transport and deliver your goods.

FWIW, I just did a very rough hypothetical quote for the same hypothetical package to and from the same zips, and ShipBikes was $23 cheaper than BikeFlights.

**For what that is worth.**

Just used Shipbikes for the first time on Saturday (after it quoted me $62 for the west suburbs of Chicago to Brooklyn compared to Bikeflights $87).

Now the Fedex tracking page shows an "exception," which I've never seen before. Anyone know what this means?

Usually exception means bad weather and the package got rerouted/returned to the depot for later delivery. At least in my experience.

Your package "experiencing an exception" is corporate-passive-voice for "we screwed up."  Don't worry for a day or so, then check for an update.  Usually its nothing, like the regular driver is on vacation and the sub messed up the route.  If nothing has changed in a day call Fedex or Shipbikes.

Or, it could be that they're holding your package for the drug sniffing dogs. :)

We use shipbikes exclusively at the bike shop I work at. We’ve yet to have a problem with them.
