What clears a 2.6? a 2.8?

Additionally - anyone have such variety for sale and also brake levers?

Thanks

Igor,

Not sure if you've seen this but if it were me, I'd get the longest arms I could find. Looks like 110mm is easy to find and there is one Tektro model at 120mm:

For a couple of weeks I had used Avid single digit 7 v-brakes, with 650bx2.15 Almotion tires.  Felt like there was just enough room for fenders.  Hence these brakes won't be an option for those wider tires you want to use.

Now I'm running Avid Shorty Ultimate cantis.

What size Susie? That may or may not make some difference. My v-brake arms are 107mm. I am running 700 x 2.6" Teravail Honchos on RhynoLite XL rims on my size large Susie.  I have about 15mm clearance. The braze-ons are well-placed, so that the pads are right near the end of the slots. If I were running fenders or 2.8s I would look for brakes with longer arms. There is a list somewhere on the internet, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth at this point.

I have a Deore XT set I just bought NOS from the dreaded auction site. Arms are XT-M780, 107mm. I put them on my custom and rode a few miles (current COVID situation is I don't ride much), then got another bike with Paul cantis, then I sold that frame and kept the brakes so... it's a long story but these v-brakes and levers are for sale!

New condition, no scratches, out of production and cost me a ridiculous  amount of money so can't sell too cheap.
$150 shipped.

First dibs to Igor but holler if you're not him and want them, I'll check with him first.

Thanks,
Joe Bernard

Thanks Mark. I believe this is the link that Daniel linked above: https://www.gravelbike.com/v-brake-arm-lengths/

It is a medium Susie. I may receive it today but alas no rims just yet, that may be later this week.

Here's the clearance on the setup I described above. Plenty of room for more rubber or fenders, but as mentioned you would want longer arms in that case. However choice is limited if you are looking for white brakes like I was ;^)

Igor, did you figure out what to go with? I am running into an issue with adding fenders to my Hubbuhubbuh--even the

Shimano DXR MX70 that Riv sells (sold out) and I have on my Susie are 110, and there is still lots of room to bring the fenders in to the  frame and away from the fender/tire, giving the tire better clearance. The Tektro 849AL on the gravel list is no longer available. Ironically, you can get them in white, which I was looking for for my Susie, from England. They are pretty cheap brakes, 20-something for a pair, but shipping doubles that. I think for max clearance with fenders, cantis are the best option. (I wonder if the longer arms of the 849 affect the braking power, as longer reach sidepulls and centerpulls seem to be affected? Any engineers out there?

The Tektro 849 AL is actually still available as the Contek BR-849AL from Holland Bike Shop. I have a set that I am putting on my Cargo Bike. Plenty of clearance for fenders and non-anodized, non-painted aluminum so they can be polished

Here are XT BR-M780 calipers on an Appaloosa, over Antelope Hill 55mm tyres plus VO fenders. The fenders are ~15mm above the tyre, so without fenders you could fit around a 70mm tyre without fouling the cable. The travel agent matches the cable pull with drop bar levers:

Actually it looks like you would run into the fork crown before getting near the cable. Does the App really take a 70mm (2.8") tire?!

Sadly, I don't read Dutch. How long did it take for shipping and how much did they charge? thanks!

Never mind, I figured it out. $35 for a set of brakes, $40 for shipping. Just can't do it. At least the white ones are only $25 shipping.

No, I think the nominal max tyre size on the Appaloosa is 55mm. I was actually talking about the max tyre size you could fit under the XT M780 brakes if you had them on a frame with sufficient clearance.
