Brake pad range like Paul Motolite, but not as much $$?

Hi,

Has anyone come across long-pull brakes with a fairly large range for where you place the brake pads that aren't as expensive as Paul Motolites? My specific application is putting 700c wheels on a Clem that's meant for 650b wheels, so I need another 15mm or so past what most V-brakes allow.

This is a super unimportant project, so not really worth the expense of the Pauls, which I'm sure are awesome brakes. Just looking at my Fuji Touring next to my Clem made me wonder enough to try it. The wheels fit fine, but not the brakes.

Thanks,

 - Bruce

Can you use caliper brakes like the tektro R559?

I'm just wondering if the holes in the fork crown and seat stay are intended for recess mounted calipers?

Box components, a bmx brand, makes them.  I have two sets of short pull (mini V) new-in-the-boxed I need to sell.

I put a set like these on a 26 to 650b conversion - they worked great, as is true of all v brakes in my experience.  They are not.particularly sexy..

Good thought on the calipers, though the seat stay hole on my Clem is oriented the wrong way.

Thanks for the product suggestions—I have fenders and wide-ish tires, so I don’t think the short box ones would work, but I might give the AliExpress ones a try. Will, do you know if the price is for one or two? Cheap either way, just not clear on the site.

I think it's per set (one wheel's worth).

Hi Bruce,

There is a Promax brake that will do the trick.
I think it’s called the P-1.

It’s a V brake with TALL slots for vertical pad adjustment.

Comes in a bunch of colors, including SILVER. Any bike shop would be happy to order them for you.

I’ve used them to do 26>650b conversions.

Enjoy!
