My stunningly beautiful 2001 Joe Stark built, Joe Bell painted, custom Rivendell with 60.5 X 59 measurements (C to C). Fits 33.33mm Jack Brown tires. Paint is Rivendell Mithril blue with fancy details in very good condition. Paint would qualify as excellent except for a few chips on the right fork leg and one on the top tube (bar flip, errrgh).
- Lugged Nitto/Rivendell 10cm stem
- Lugged Nitto/Rivendell seatpost
- Nitto 46cm Dirt Drop handlebars
- TA Vega cranks with 110bcd spider and 48/34T TA Zephyr chain rings
- Dura Ace nine speed drivetrain
- Front shifter is a 105 model. No functional difference from DA.
- Dura Ace titanium cassette
- Dura Ace brake calipers (and I'm pretty sure levers as well)
- Dura Ace hubs with Velocity A23 rims and butted spokes (32r/28f)
- Challenge Eroica 700X3C tires with very little wear. Hard to mount, ride like a dream! Slight surface cracking from lack of use!
- Chris King no logo headset
- King Cage Iris water bottle cages
- Shimano PD A530 pedals
- Brand new SRAM PC 971 chain
This was built up as a light-weight, go-fast bike. Thin, air-hardened tubing for light weight and strength at the core of the build. Then I assembled with well thought-out and light-weight components whenever possible. There are no rack attachment options, nor have fenders ever been installed. The Anti-Pillar of Rivendell bikes! That said, it is not a delicate bike by any means. It is truly the best of both worlds in having a light-weight, racy bike that you can ride where you want to!
So if the bike is so perfect, why get rid of it, you ask? As I mentioned, it is currently one of six bikes, soon to be seven. I have been riding almost exclusively dirt for the last few years, and when I do ride roads, I am riding my Salsa with cross tires or set up tubeless with 650B tires. If I do want a pure road bike, I have my other Rivendell with thicker tubing and fatter tires. Frankly, that bike is getting nervous as well...
What I will miss is the absolute joy of a light-weight road bike that this bike provides. Hopping on it and riding fast is amazing. My other bikes (including Riv's) do not compare. I just don't do that frequently enough to justify keeping this hanging in the garage. And I need to pay for my newest bike (A Santa Cruz Chameleon, if you're curious).
I am the second owner, and have owned since March of '08. This was one of multiple bikes and Rivendell's for the first owner, so he put similar low miles on it. Always a SoCal bike, zero surface rust or corrosion. Framesaver applied to frame. It is my second Rivendell custom, and my fourth Rivendell of any type. One of six bikes currently. It was only used when I was planning on relatively smooth, fast rides staying (for the most part) on roads.
I ran this bike a a 650B conversion as well (second photo below). It performed perfectly with no issues. Consider that an option if you run a B-sized fleet and want to add to it.
Price is $2,200 shipped to your door, minus saddle. If you would like the Brooks Ti Swift saddle, let's talk.Less for pick up in SoCal, could possibly be delivered over the Labor Day weekend.
