My stunningly beautiful 2001 Joe Stark built, Joe Bell painted, custom Rivendell with 60.5 X 59 measurements (C to C). Fits 33.33mm Jack Brown tires. Paint is Rivendell Mithril blue with fancy details in very good condition. Paint would qualify as excellent except for a few chips on the right fork leg and one on the top tube (bar flip, errrgh).
  • Lugged Nitto/Rivendell 10cm stem
  • Lugged Nitto/Rivendell seatpost
  • Nitto 46cm Dirt Drop handlebars
  • TA Vega cranks with 110bcd spider and 48/34T TA Zephyr chain rings
  • Dura Ace nine speed drivetrain
  • Front shifter is a 105 model. No functional difference from DA.
  • Dura Ace titanium cassette
  • Dura Ace brake calipers (and I'm pretty sure levers as well)
  • Dura Ace hubs with Velocity A23 rims and butted spokes (32r/28f)
  • Challenge Eroica 700X3C tires with very little wear. Hard to mount, ride like a dream! Slight surface cracking from lack of use!
  • Chris King no logo headset
  • King Cage Iris water bottle cages
  • Shimano PD A530 pedals
  • Brand new SRAM PC 971 chain
This was built up as a light-weight, go-fast bike. Thin, air-hardened tubing for light weight and strength at the core of the build. Then I assembled with well thought-out and light-weight components whenever possible. There are no rack attachment options, nor have fenders ever been installed. The Anti-Pillar of Rivendell bikes! That said, it is not a delicate bike by any means. It is truly the best of both worlds in having a light-weight, racy bike that you can ride where you want to!

So if the bike is so perfect, why get rid of it, you ask? As I mentioned, it is currently one of six bikes, soon to be seven. I have been riding almost exclusively dirt for the last few years, and when I do ride roads, I am riding my Salsa with cross tires or set up tubeless with 650B tires. If I do want a pure road bike, I have my other Rivendell with thicker tubing and fatter tires. Frankly, that bike is getting nervous as well...

What I will miss is the absolute joy of a light-weight road bike that this bike provides. Hopping on it and riding fast is amazing. My other bikes (including Riv's) do not compare. I just don't do that frequently enough to justify keeping this hanging in the garage. And I need to pay for my newest bike (A Santa Cruz Chameleon, if you're curious).

I am the second owner, and have owned since March of '08. This was one of multiple bikes and Rivendell's for the first owner, so he put similar low miles on it. Always a SoCal bike, zero surface rust or corrosion. Framesaver applied to frame. It is my second Rivendell custom, and my fourth Rivendell of any type. One of six bikes currently. It was only used when I was planning on relatively smooth, fast rides staying (for the most part) on roads.

I ran this bike a a 650B conversion as well (second photo below). It performed perfectly with no issues. Consider that an option if you run a B-sized fleet and want to add to it.

Price is $2,200 shipped to your door, minus saddle. If you would like the Brooks Ti Swift saddle, let's talk.Less for pick up in SoCal, could possibly be delivered over the Labor Day weekend.

More pics on request!

Can't believe you're getting rid of this....I'm sure it'll make someone very happy!Nice build. Hopefully there will be no seller's remorse

If anyone has ever dreamed of a custom Rivendell, this is it.  They don't come up often, and I'll bet the wait is many months.

I really do love this bike. But it's literally hanging in the garage collecting dust and cobwebs. I'm not just blowing smoke when I say that it's a joy to ride. Definitely faster and spryer than my other bikes. And having it built by the same guy in the same year as my other custom build was just a great bonus. My other custom is definitely stouter and designed to be a trail/multi-surface bike.

If anyone is interested, transportation up the 101 as far north as Santa Cruz can be arranged. Will happily knock $100 off the price.

I also have a Brooks B17 Champion Special as well as a Professional that arrangements can be made for. More saddles than I can sit on at one time!

This is a beautiful bike. I'm a little shocked that it's on the block - breaking up the twins!
I understand the need to get a shed bike out and away, though, and under a rider where it belongs. I almost exclusively ride the last bike that got a makeover, making me wonder why I have the other three.

That bike is soooo beautiful.  If it were my size, I would buy it in a heart beat.

Guilty of all the above. The Glorius is so amaze-balls, but it gets used less than this bike... if we go somewhere we're on our tandem. She doesn't ride solo at all. She doesn't want to sell it though. :-)

Hi John, my PBH is 89 and saddle heigh is 78cm. I run it ~1cm lower than normal due to IT band issues.
Standover is about 86.5cm.

Any other questions, send them my way!

I really thought long and hard about it... one of them has to go. I like this frame and ride more, but the other one fits fatter tires and that fits my life more. I VERY much considered a B conversion on it, but ended up riding my Salsa w/ road+ tires/wheels, and am only 1/2 way sold on the idea. 700C works better for me, although I need tubeless for 'round these parts. What it comes down to is that I'm just not putting road miles on. This one came up shortest.

I can see at some point that along with this one, selling both my other Riv and Salsa, and then getting a custom that combines the best of all three: modern threadless steerer on a flexible fork, maybe disc brakes, clearance for fat tires, light & flexy frame. Means another custom, but that bike would replace three. That's all down the road a ways, as my head is in MTB land now. I pretty much only want to ride dirt, and have been going up to the local mountains (Big Bear) to ride there every weekend.

So yeah, as everyone can read, I've put some time and thought into this, and am not doing it on a whim. This will be a great bike for someone, and I think it is priced very well with all the Nitto parts and quality Dura Ace components. Yeah, it's nine speed, but it's basically be best nine speed you can get with Ti cassette, freehub, and TA cranks. Very well thought out and integrated in one classic package. Just needs to find that right someone!

Just weighed it this morning, and it comes in at 22.2lbs on the bathroom scale. That's with pedals and cages, but without pump and tool bag.
If desired, you could pretty easily get it down to a sub 20lbs bike with a lighter saddle, stem, seatpost and pedals.

Almost seems like one of those Crust bikes might be up your alley

I hate to say it, but my Salsa La Cruz is the road bike I ride pretty much exclusively. Of my two Riv customs, the all-rounder gets a little bit of love, but the road I'm selling hasn't been used since December 2016!

Some nibbles, but no transaction yet. Adam Smith says I need to lower the price on this 22lbs go-fast bike.

So $2100 shipped, but I'll also include either a Brooks Professional saddle OR B17, your choice. Drop in price $100 and $100 value added, not bad!

$2000 local pick up. Payment via Paypal F&F or a paper check.

If no interest at this price point, I guess I can try ebay. Maybe sell to one of those $100 water bottle people!!!

BTW, looking at the Rivbike geometry charts, I would say it is pretty close to the exact geometry of the 61cm Roadeo. You may notice the price of the Roadeo, and compare that to mine.

FYI, tires aren't that great. Lots of tread (really, I didn't ride this bike), but the sidewalls are going.

Hi all, bike has been sold. Thanks for letting me post here, as well as helping me through the mourning process!
Grief and loss, but it will be okay... :-)
