My build is basically set with the parts currently on my Sam (with the exception of the Phil Wood BB) and is typical Riv:  Sugino cranks, Nitto Noodles, Nitto Big Rack rear, Mini-Front, Brooks B17, etc.  I plan on running the 700 X 42 Schwalbe Marathon Supremes on Mavic A719s.  Soooo, my question for the group is Am I Making A Decision I Will Regret Forever if I run the silver 45 Longboard Fenders on this baby?  My wife has the cream longboards on her green LHT and they seem to provide adequate coverage with the stock Conti 37s.

Pics with your suggestions always appreciated.

Darin:

Does your question relate to the color or the size? In either case,
it's easily changed if you don't care for the look or the coverage.
FWIW, I've seen silver fenders on an Atlantis (not mine) & they look
fine.

Try 50 psi front / 60 rear on the 42mm Marathon Supremes for a start
point. For me (total bike + rider around 200-210 lbs), those
pressures ride nicely unloaded. My 58 cm Atlantis has the same wheel
& tire combo you're getting.

For coverage, it will be close.  The hardware on the front fender might, or might not clear a 42.  Have 700x40 Marathon Duremes on the Sam Hillborne and had to fiddle with the cream longboards to get everything to work.  Tried to mount the front fender to the rack yesterday and threw everything out of line.  Was able to get it back to normal, but now have a large hole in the top of the fender.  And still no attachment to the rack.  Sigh.

But the fenders should just, barely, eke out coverage.  IMO, the silvers are a touch better in that department than the creamboards.

Darin,

I don't have pictures at hand but have Marathon Supreme 40's (42-622) / Longboards  on my Atlantis for almost a year now. Oh. and the back rim is an A719 laced to a White MI5.

Previously I used Marathon Plus 47's with Silver SKS. I still have a new set of orphaned 47's if interested ;)

I appreciate the sturdiness of the Silver SKS and have them on other bikes but from a functional stand point the Long boards provide better coverage and although not quite as sturdy by compare are plenty sturdy.

I like this set up enough that the Supreme's are wearing and I purchased another set for replacement when these demand change.

One note is that this setup is for daily commute. I commute about 16 miles daily on surface streets and city roads. I can't opine on fully loaded touring.

Finally, I do receive regular compliments about the bike when out and about. My stock response is "and it's highly functional" I like the fact that everything works well for me and that it's attractive is secondary.

I'll try to get some pictures up in the next day or two.

I vote for Longboard.

Here is a pic of the longboards over 700 x 40 Marathon Duremes:

It's tight.  i don't think you could get a bigger tire in there, at least with the sidepull brakes.  Cantis will give you more room.

I guess both color and size,...but the consensus seems to be that the longboards will work and I"m planning on running with the silvers.  Other choice are the Planet Bike Cascadias I have on my Sam, but I think I'll keep them there as I re-build that bike.

I'm going to be commuting and touring on the Atlantis.

Have to give credit to my Wife (Dawn). It's her bike.
