Once I have it, the wait will be the furthest thing from my mind. At
least it wasn't a Vanilla. :)
Brad
I recall waiting a similar length of time for my All-Rounder (I
believe during a transition from Waterford to Joe Stark). 11 years
later I'm still enjoying the bike.

P.S. I'm adding this color to the short list of "colors to pick when I
need a repaint."

So, by Mark, do you mean Nobilette? If so, he's a busy man, with his
own stuff AND the Rene Herse bikes. No wonder it took over two years.

I'm not Brad but have a similar story
.
I got my custom in November of 2008. My wait time was a bit more that 3 yrs.
I too was in the same Curt/Mark N builder transition that Brad was.
Since I had a Romulus to ride during the wait time it was no big deal to me.
I totally love my Riv Custom.

I'm not entirely sure other than there was a long list of folks ahead of me. Curt and Mark were both building at the time I placed the order but after Curt stopped building Rivs I imagine the entire queue fell on Mark's shoulders. He works these in around his own frames. To be fair, Grant was quite clear about customs not being for those who couldn't afford to wait. Once I have it, the wait will be the furthest thing from my mind. At least it wasn't a Vanilla. :) Brad On Jan 11, 3:28 pm, Rene Sterental wrote: > Beautiful. Why did it take so long?

That's really a fine looking frame. It will be exciting to see it come
together. I agree on the color - really a winner.
thanks for passing that along!

Well, it's not like the numbers are too crazy. Just built exactly the
way I wanted it. I have been coveting a Rivendell for well over 10
years and this was a 40th birthday gift from my family and friends.
The bike has clearance for 42s w/fenders, long reach sidepulls, triple
crank, King hubs, Noodle bars, bar end shifters, etc.

sweet! i assume clearance for 42s and long reach sidepulls was spec'd
for 650b, or no? and no mid-fork braze-ons, so a dedicated rear-
loader (or no-loader) - kind of a sport touring rig with very generous
clearances? looks fun!
700 actually. I followed Grant's recommendation on the brakes after
speccing the clearances that I was looking for. Sport Touring rig
about sums it up, yes. I will most likely ride it sans racks for
longer mixed terrain rides around Los Angeles. There are quite a few I
have had my eye on for several years. From my house I can ride nice
roads and fire roads all the way to the coast. I believe XO-1 took a
group on many of those roads/trails last year on an epic. I'd love to
throw some fat knobbies on a have a go at a good chunk of the MTB
trails I have ridden hundreds of times. Should get some interesting
looks, I'm sure.
mmm. sounds fun! the challenge grifo xs might be right up your alley
- outstanding tire. great for dirt-to-pavement-to-single track kind
of riding.

When the time comes for touch-up paint, try Autocolor Service in
Oregon, telephone 1-866-672-8201. Autocolor's House of Kolor touch-up
paints are made to brush on, match perfectly, and look much better
than touch-up paints that are made to spray on.
Enjoy the bike.

Brad,
That is a very nice bike, and very pretty. I hope I run into you
around town some day so I can see it!
James Black

A neat solution to this is to run the cables "criss-cross" style: The rear runs from the lever, (on the right) around the top tube, and to the cable stop on the left side of the down tube! The front cable crosses over similarly from the left side of the handlebar to the right side of the down tube.
The bare cables then cross one another under the middle of the down tube, making an "X". The cables may touch where they cross, but they will do so very lightly, since they are both straight...the tiny bit of friction at this crossing is more than offset by the reduction in friction in the smoother-flowing cable housings.
