What did you mount, and how did it work out?
Are the 'boards strong enough to hold the weight without bouncing the light around?
I imaging if mounted from holes near the fender stays it would be strong enough, but Peter White warns against using plastiuc fenders for mountin'.

I wouldn't.

I'm having enough trouble getting my Longboards to stay where I want
them, but that is probably because I have to stand the bike on end,
i.e. on the rear fender, to get it up and down the elevator in my
building. Which would make that spot not work for a light anyway.

I use a blinky clipped to my saddle bag.

How do you keep the blinkie aimed properly? When I attach them to a bag, tey end up pointed downward and in effect lose half of their intensity. I've resorted to a strobe on the Fargo which, not using LED technology, does not have to be carefully aimed. But strobes use batteries up much more quickly.

If I could find a way to keep blinkies properly aimed, the straps would solve a lot of problems.

The PDW Fenderbot tail light works on a Longboard fender.  And also on the Planet Bike fenders.  Have in the past used them on the now departed Sam Hillborne and departed Fargo.  Probably will set one up for the SimpleOne next year, as the battery tail light on that bike is on the Nitto rear rack.

Did quite a bit of road and gravel road riding on those bikes with the tail light attached and there was no undue rattling or bouncing.  The PDW light is very light.

I've been running a heavy rear light on the Longboard since early Oct without any problems.   Doesn't meant there wont' be.. just that so far seems fine and solid.  Sorry forgot the name of the light but here is a photo.

I am surprised Rivendell doesn't sell fender mounted safety lights. They seem to like fenders.
I use a poncho in the rain, and don't want it covering my saddle bag light. So a fenderable light will be great.

I like reflective tape. But also want to be sure the car drivers can see me, in case the tape doesn't happen to give 'em the correct angular bounce back for some reason.
And I'll use the reflective tape just in case the light doesn't work for some reason.

I specifically asked this question to a PDW sales rep in regards to their "Fenderbot" tail light and he said that people have been running them on plastic fenders with no problem; they design them to be lightweight for this reason.

I'd say just be careful about how you drill the mounting holes--use progressively larger drill bits to minimize stress--and check the area for cracks regularly.  Other than that, you should be fine.

On my weekend errands I'm going to try to hit Jitensha Studio and pick up a couple of these Spanninga lights, with the intent of putting them on both plastic and metal fenders.  They are super inexpensive.

I bought three of these taillights at Jitensha Studio and mounted two of them.  I put one onto hammered Honjos, and the other on a P45.  Both seem great.  You end up bolting it on very close to one of the stays, so it seems really solid.  It's a very lightweight little light and has the really nice feature of an auto mode, which uses a Light sensor and a motion sensor to decide when to turn on.  I think that's pretty slick for $16.  The model I have does not blink.

Hate to be the voice of decent here but I can't recommend the PDW Fenderbot at all. The other bot is great but the fender one is the dimmest light Iv'e ever seen. When I ditched my metal fenders for plastic ones I decided to keep the PDW on the fender and not move it over.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by the super flasher which is really bright.

One more vote for the PDW Fenderbots. I've had 'em on my Longboards for a couple years with absolutely no issues. They're quite light.

Thanks everyone.
I finally got around to mounting the Spanninga onto the Longboard.
Wood drill bit cut through cleanly and with ease. That aluminum strip must be wafer thin.
I couldn't even feel the diff of the bit passing through the plastic, then the aluminum.
I am glad to not have to worry about if my saddle bag light has come off or not angled correctly.

The Spanninga Pixeo looks really nice and is very bright all around at car driver's eye level when the light fixture is mounted just above the fender stay/strut.

Peter White says the SKS fenders (Longboards also) are fine for taillights mounted on them but I think he was referring to dynamo powered lights which are lighter generally. The rear rack braze on is a good place to mount a light also if you want it lower than the seat post or rear bag area and don't have a rack. My daughters rear rack wears a Planet Bike rack mount for her Super Flash which is quite a visible and reliable tail light. I plan on a B&M tail light "brake light" model for my new Son 28 along with a Edeluxe head light......dynamo lighting is the best for most cycling but battery lighting is fine for most riding under and hour especially with  many of the new USB rechargable lights.
