FS: Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen 65cm (MUSA), f//f/h

Good Evening Bunch,

Life happens and I have to sell my Homer. I planned on keeping for a long time, but even cash at times is more important when there are higher priorities.

I am selling frame, fork, and headset. The headset is FSA.

It is English blue with a single top tube. It was semi custom when I got it. The seat tube is 65cm and I am measuring the top tube center to center at 23 inches or 58cm. The chain stay length is 49cm. So a little different than the standard MUSA Homer geometry.

The frame is in excellent. I only can see or know if one little mark on the top tube that is barely noticeable and shown with pictures. The dropouts of course has marks from the QRs.

The only mark I know of on the frame is circled on the top tube in one of the pictures.   Anything else on the pictures is dirt or dust.

Not my size but that's a nice frame someone should buy. Can you maybe do new pics in brighter light? The ones you have really underplay how sharp that color looks in real life.

Thanks for the clarifying question. This bike should fit someone with an 87-90 PBH. I say this estimate based on experience and knowledge of the fit for Rivendell bikes on this era. I’m sure there is a geometry chart someplace as well. A person outside of that size range may find a way to fit it and enjoy the ride as well.

IIRC The AHH was made as large as a (rare) 72cm frame. So this big bike isn’t even the biggest. That said, other factors influence fit, shoe choice, flexibility, aesthetics, etc. just to name a variety.

This particular bike is about 10cm too big for me, ha!, but there might be some tall folks who want a nice riding road bike with room for big tires and classic looks.

As someone who has a 90cm PBH, I found the 65cm AHH to be a touch large. Riv suggests PBH of around 92-94cm for the MUSA AHH

For added context I prefer to ride a bike with as little stand over clearance as possible, sometimes negative clearance. I actually rounded up my estimate thinking others might prefer more room.

I had this exact model and size of frame, and can attest to it riding beautifully! Mine sold for a bit less than this, so maybe the buyer got a deal, but either way it's a lovely frame. I found it a bit long for drops with a 94pbh.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It has a little bit of a shorter top tube, so not as long in the drops than the standard Riv geometry.

I bought it from Rivendell and has about 600 miles on it, so practically almost new.

I have a 67. The MUSA Homer is, for me, a bike that hits the sweet spot. Takes bigger tires and is better on unpaved surfaces than the old Ram, and is a better unloaded road bike than the MUSA Atlantis. 

It's a great bike -- hopefully there's a tall person out there who will commit and enjoy it -- I think $1500 is a fair price.

You stated that it has slightly different measurements than some of the geometry stated on Riv’s charts. I actually like that Grant and company made modifications/adjustments/improvements to many of their models over the years.
However your measurements (although probably accurate). Oils be part of the problem.
I bought Reid’s 65cm as a graduation 👨‍🎓 present for my son, and can attest for it being to long for Reid. It nearly matched the 67 Homer I have it top tube length. Reid’s was 62 or 63 cm which is almost 2 inches longer that the 58cm you measure yours at.
You need a long legged but short armed drop bar rider potentially.
I will attest that both of my Homers had a golden ride quality to them. Worth a gamble for someone but maybe a very small audience. Also yours appears in amazing shape which is good if the “new” owner values that but it comes with your slightly higher asking price. Which I also think it is worth for the record. It is almost identical as the NIB prices for the MIT Atlantis and Homer.
For the record I would ask $1500 for my 67cmHomer F/F/HS/BB if I ever moved it and would not take a penny less.
But I did move my Son’s 65cm to a fellow list member because he wants a Hillibike instead. So Reid’s has found a new home and has a very happy new owner. He reached out to me over the same time frame of your listing. For the record I offered the frame back to Reid before he found the great deal on his Rambouillet 🐑. Be patient. Timing can be everything and it only takes one buyer.

Hmm... lovely frame and I’m very tempted by the possibility of a tall bike with a short top tube, yet a relaxed seat tube angle, as most Rivs are.

However, some conflicting info here about the bikes geometry, so an accurate / actual geometry chart would be helpful. To whit, the 58 cm top tube seems a bit short for a 65 cm seat tube. Was the ST measured center to top of lug?.. was the top tube measured without going from the centerline of the seat tube to the centerline of the head tube?..

Better yet, stack and reach numbers could really help with determining fit possibilities.

Brendonoid, that’s helpful (89 cm PBH here), but once does wonder how custom that frame was, what with the 65x58 combo. :-)

I measured the Stack and Reach.  I had to look how how to do it.  This is how I did it to make sure on same page.  For Stack, I measured from floor to top of center of headtube.  Then measured from floor to center of bottom bracket.  I then subtracted these two numbers.  For Reach,  with bike against a wall, I measured from center of top of headtube to the rear of the frame to the wall.  I then measured from the center of bottom bracket to the rear of the wall.  I subtracted these measurements.  I used a level to make sure the proper length because the top tube has a little but of slope.  

For stack, I measured 26.25 inches or 66.75 cm.  For reach I measured 14.5 inches or 36.83 cm.
