SKS Longboard Fenders

So the SKS Longboard Fenders have been out for a while now and I
imagine a fair amount of folks have tried them. What are your
impressions? I'm well acquainted with metal fenders, have VOs on my
rando bike and have used Berthouds but really, I like the standard SKS
fenders. I have a set that have been on my commuter for years and
they're great with VO flaps. I'm thinking of trying the Longboards for
my Hilsen. Any issues? The rear fenders seems straightforward but are
there any issues with the front flender wobbling due to its length?

The front mudflap sometimes wobbles do to length but the fender doesn't wobble a little. I have a set of them on my romulus and they work great with gb cypress

I have not had an issue with the front fender wobbling. The front fender is longer -- longer than a planet bike Cascadia. I found the SKS fenders to be far more of a pain to install than the Planet Bike fenders.

I found that if you follow the instructions from the videos that rivendell put up on youtube for installing the fenders that it will all just work.

Longboard's with Marathon Supreme 40's on my Atlantis have worked out very well.
Replaced regular SKS with Marathon Plus 47's.
Daily commutes to work and back for several months with no issue.

Good to know folks are happy with them. I find SKS fenders pretty easy
to install. I find SKS a bit easier to remove and allow for greater
tire clearance than Berthouds which is part of my decision to go with
the SKS.

Erin has cream longboards on her Quickbeam that I installed. It took
a little futsing around with the plastic inserts that attach the stays
to the fender. But the color match between the cream of the fenders
and the cream of the QB decal are spot-on. The bike looks terrific.
And in a recent surprise downpour last week on the commute home, I was
quite jealous of them as I was on my fenderless Bike Friday with a big
ol' sandy greasy road stripe up my back and under my Brooks.

The cream Longboards look great on my orange Sam. The extra coverage
is much appreciated too. My feet don't get soaked anymore when I pedal
through long, deep puddles. With the standard SKS's that I used to
have installed, if I didn't stop pedaling and hold my feet in the 3
and 9 o'clock positions, they would get drenched. The only issue that
I had after initial install was the mud flaps slapping the tires. I
simply loosened the bolts and flared the ends of the fenders about a
quarter of an inch further away from the tires and the problem was
solved. No other issues.

and Berthouds, with their greater sectional wraparound, crowd the 32
mm Kojacks. Must convert the Longboards to true French, aluminum
stays, though.

I've had the Longboards on the Hillgreen since they came out. The
mudflaps do wag the rest of the fenders from time to time. Eventually
will drill the fender to attach to the Nitto rack.
They fit 40mm wide Marathon Duremes without issue. And had no
problems with 40mm Supremes before that.

I installed the silver LongBoards on my 54 Hunqapillar this past
week. I first replaced the fornt mudflap with the shorter unit,
simple task.
I installed the front fender first which was straightforward. For the
moment, fitted with out the black plastic yokes.
Fitting the rear was a bit of a challenge. Interesting trying to do
this with the Marathon Supreme (42 actual width tires). This requires
deflating the tire to fit the front
bolt and some spacers made with gray and black faucet washers. The
upper clamp that is normally fitted to the brake bridge took some
doing. The brake bridge is drilled vertically rather than
horizontally. I took the fender clamp and straightened the hanger tab
ie I flattened it out from the 90 degree to horizontal. Then I fitted
a bolt downward with a nylock from the fender side. After this is
completed the fender can be lifted into place and put into the clamp.
The rest of the fitting was a simple task.
The rear was also fitted without the black spoke yokes... Now that the
fenders are installed I can cut all the rods to length, file the end
edges round and fit the black yokes.
In a weekend 15 mile ride of on and off raod, no flapping or wiggling,
just some squeaking from the front which I attribute to the black
break away joint connectors at the drop outs. I'll recheck this when
I fit the yokes. I have not yet ridden in the rain or slurry,
however , it looks like they will function well.
I will suggest one thing before you start; take a 5mm X .80 tap and
run it through all the eyelets before you begin. In my case this
cleaned up 2 eyelets with buggered threads and removed the paint from
all the others. Two of the supplied 5 mm bolts had malformed threads,
I ran a die down them with complete success.
