Hello,

Has anyone successfully used a 11-spd chain on a silver wide-low crankset?

The plan is use an 11-34 11spd cassette in the back paired with an 38/24 silver crankset.

The Riv website states the silver cranks are compatible with up to 10 speed, but i am wondering if anyone can comment on 11 speed.

Thanks!

Can confirm it works with a KMC X11!

I was told by Riv that Silver cranksets will not work with 11speed (unless you set it up 1x) because the spacing between the chain rings is too wide, which can cause the narrow 11 speed chain to fall between the chainrings while shifting.

Did you not experience such issues then?

Thanks

Alfonso

Hi, it worked for me, i have not experienced the chain to fall between the chainrings.  It has occasionally fallen between the Chainguard and the Large Chainring.  I can probably eliminate that by adjusting the limit screw but i haven't found the need to do it, since i friction shift i just do a slight manual trim of the front derailleur.

I suggest you try it first to see if there is actually a problem. I have 11-speed chains/cassettes on multiple bikes, and have never purchased an "11-speed" crank. I've used cranksets intended for use with 8-speed chains (eg Deore XT M737/739) and those intended for 9/10-speed (eg Sugino Alpina2) with 11-speed chains/cassettes, and have had no problems at all with the chain falling between chainrings. The only cranks where I've had that happen were with cranks using TA Cyclotouriste chainrings and spacers, and I fixed that problem by reducing the spacing between the chainrings. Explained here: https://groups.google.com/g/rbw-owners-bunch/c/0klJAJh-KhU/m/mZJ7e5TcAQAJ. I've found that the same fix works fine for 11-speed chains as well as the 10-speed I was using when I wrote that.

Thanks Sebastian and Nick for your replies.

Nick, I was just thinking about that... adding spacers if the only risk were the chain falling between chainrings, so thanks for sharing your experience.
