My order from Andel of Taiwan promptly arrived yesterday, containing 3 sets of the silver RSC6 110/74 triple/double cranks @150mm in length. I consider these modest, nicely made and stout cranks. I believe this crank model formerly came with Surly LHT bikes before they switched to something else. From my experience of riding these and Sugino XD's the Andels are notably stiffer. I already had a shortened set of the black Andels from Bikesmith Design, a specialty custom crank shortening service who offers a limited selection of cranks in limited cuts, but they're all black and seeing that I could get the Andels direct from Andel in stock silver, I just had to order some. They make certain models down to 150mm and up in 5mm increments.
I ride 150's as with long legs and large feet placed between mid and forefoot, this length gives me the perfect balance between leg speed and leverage. The common crank theoreticals didn't work for me. Riv cranks were not suitable for shortening based on their design, so I found the Andel RSC6 instead. I ordered just the arms. Certain ring combos I wanted were not available, hence the arms alone. I also ride some 150mm Origin8 110 doubles. They're nice also, I wanted the option of the short silver triples though for future use.
I conversed with "Johnnie" @Andel, very professional ! Basically you fill out a inquiry form and they reply back. After many emails back and forth to settle the particulars of the order, they sent me a Paypal invoice. Once paid they had it sent via EMS and it took 6-7 days total to Ohio. The photos are what Johnnie took as I asked to see a photo of what I'd be ordering, so nothing was lost in translation. What I received were the same. Very nice !
