Hello,
I am in the market for Carradice Camper saddle bag. I cant find one
in any stores in S.F. I have noticed that i can order one from SJS
Bikes in london for around $110. Has anyone had any experience with
this company and/or purchasing from overseas?

Cheers

I have placed two orders with them with excellent outcome. I wouldn't
hesitate ordering from them again.

you may have a look on carradice.co.uk they sell the bags directly and
they have a list of the stockists in the US.
Do the 110$ include shipping?

Gunnar.

I have, from time to time, found Carradice items in the UK
significantly cheaper than ordering from a store in the US. (and the
UK has a large Value Added Tax...hmmm)

Always had good luck from Citibikes Cooperative in Portland. It looks
like they have the Campers in stock for US$125. (For some reason
Firefox won't let me copy and paste the link.)

Also try

http://www.wiggle.co.uk

They have excellent deals of Carradice stuff and good shipping rates
and speed.
I've ordered from them a few times and the service is great.

I have orderd several items from SJS and would have no problem doing so again.

When I was looking for stainless steel tubus racks I found that one of the racks was only available in Europe. Wiggle was having a sale on them so I ordered from them as well.  I would probably use them again if they had a good price and SJS did not have what I wanted.

Unless you are in Europe, the value added tax does not apply.
Leastways that is how my orders from the U.K., including SJS have
worked.

That said, I am with doc. I bought my Carradice from the U.S. and got
a great price.

I agree.  They have not added the VAT tax to my order in the states.  You should be aware that there price may be shown in pounds or euros rather then dollars so be sure you know which and look at the current exchange rate other wise you could be in for a surprise.  I have found that even with the exchange rates and shipping the prices are still pretty good.

I'll put in another recommendation for Wiggle. My Carradice was in my
hands a week later, and shipping is free with an $83 order ...

I have a coworker who has placed multiple orders with Wiggle and found
them to be great. They have really good prices on Carradice and Brooks
stuff. If you're partial to ordering from someone in the US try Harris
Cyclery or Peter White.

Oh, and the Camper is all of $73 at wiggle currently. They also have
the support for $30, way cheaper than I've seen it elsewhere.

I had good luck ordering a crank I couldn't find anywhere else from SJS and the price was very good.

While I've had an (extremely) unsatisfactory experience with their
service and maintenance Trophy Bikes in Philly carries a TON of
Carradice, Tubus, Ortlieb, etc stuff. They also special order so if
they don't have it in stock, they can get it for you.

If you're going to order from overseas, I'd suggest going right the the source:

<http://carradice.co.uk/saddlebags/camper-longflap-saddlebag.shtml>

Under $100 plus shipping, but the VAT gets removed.  Shipping will probably be about $20, and removing the VAT will save about $10.

And you get to chose between black or green.

I can't say enough good things about dealing with Carradice.  My bike was stolen a few weeks ago along with one of my well used Super C panniers.  I didn't want to buy another set as I only needed the one.  I emailed Carradice and Margaret found a single left side bag and I had it in about a week at less than half the cost of a pair.

I have bought two bags directly from Carradice. And ended up paying
roughly 1/2 the cost of what they go for in the US (inclusive of
shipping!).

Keep in mind that if you are ordering from them and you are in the US,
they will refund the VAT portion before charging you. Both times they
have been very prompt. I have zero complaints about dealing directly
with them.

I have purchased from Wiggle on several occasions and everything went
very smoothly-- even with things that were "out of stock".

Cheers!

Ordering direct from Carradice was also great for me. Price was
lower, available inventory was the best available.
