Unsure how many of you have heard but we've shuttered our brick and mortar location and we're making moves to retreat from the retail world for a bit.  Over the next two weeks we'll be packing up the shop.

If you have interest in the whys, feel free to read our 4/5 & 4/7 blog posts HERE.

Long story short we have four Rivs left after closing our doors for good.  We were successful in selling all of our stock locally save for these last four Rivs and a Surly Wednesday (Lg).

None of these bicycles are available from Riv currently and they are as follows:

(1)  55cm Choco Moose Joe Appaloosa complete "Creamy Blue"

(1)  58cm 2TT Choco Moose Joe Appaloosa complete "Mustard"

If you need help with spec or descriptions etc refer to the Riv Blug post HERE.

(1) 58cm Caliper Sam drop bar complete "orange"

(1) 58cm Caliper Sam choco bar complete "orange"

If you need help with spec etc you can refer to the 62 complete Sams Riv has HERE (Choco) and HERE (Drop) for reference.

Price will be $2,000 plus whatever the actual shipping is.  (Plan on tax if you are taking delivery in New York State)

This will likely be the last chance to get an Appaloosa or short-chainstay Sam in new condition...

Cheers!

Alex

Alex,

So sorry about the shop closing. So many quality oriented businesses and products are going away in favor of cheap (and I don't mean just inexpensive). I hope you continue on the boards and let us know what you'll be doing. You seem an upstanding guy, like Grant (Rivendell) and a few other Riv dealers I've met (James/Analog) or spoken with (Joe/718 Cyclery). The inventory practices of the industry is a killer for small shops.

Steve,

I have that same bike (year 2016) but in smaller size, single top tube and 650b tires. If it fits you and you haven't ridden one yet, you will be in for a treat! It's an awesome riding bike.

Thanks Roberta!

I'm sure my bicycle-obsessed mind will have me milling around the forums, riding and organizing.  See you around 😊

Alex: I hadn't heard about your business until I came across this thread and saw your post with link to your blog (Blaaag) of 4/7. That was as eloquent a description of conflicting business parameters in a difficult industry as I've seen. Sympathies for the difficulties, kudos for the vision (which I share), and best wishes for the future.

Here in ABQ, NM (or rather, next door in the Village of Corrales), where we have unusually large cycling and bicycle shop populations, I saw something very similar with Stevie's Happy Bikes, a neighborhood shop focusing on repairs and "everyday" cycling run by an owner who knows everything from Sunlite product lines to inexpensive city bikes to repairing Madones. Stevie seemed to be thriving, moving to a larger location some 5-6 years ago, then, 3-4 years ago, expanding at the second one. His staff went from 1 to several -- I filled in many times over a couple of years.

Then all of a sudden, about 2 years ago, he closed up the new shop, let all staff go, and retired to a refurbished backyard garage shop where he works alone on repairs for a tiny fraction of the volume he used to handle. He explained that costs increased in lock step with volume, and margins were too low to make the responsibility and stress worthwhile. Since he was able to pay off his house with other money, and since his wife works, a much smaller volume with even smaller overhead turned out to be the practical choice.

Good luck for your future.

Thanks for the note, Patrick! The one-man show, with a part-time pal or two covering vacations etc seems to be the ticket. I think I’d still be doing it if I was single and fancy-free. Perhaps later in life we'll do something again.

Cheers 😊
