Hoo boy..this one's gonna be hard to talk myself out of. I remember admiring the first pewter Saluki many moons ago at RBW HQ. My nice Phil 650B wheels would have a home again...

Finally the wheels have a friend! Congrats Joe! That will be a great ride.

Congratulations! I hope you post some pics when it's built. The Saluki is one of the discontinued models I'd want to buy if it became available again.

You can buy one now Jim. now, except they call it A Homer Hilsen. They might even decal it with Saluki if you inquired.

I have a 2 day MS 150 this weekend in MS, and took all 3 of my rivs for a neighborhood spin last night, trying to decide which one, which one?  The Ram got the nod, but the Saluki was close. If I were carrying more gear, it would prevail.

I will endeavor to post pics..this should be good motivation to learn how. I have a fancy schmancy digital camera, but no clue about things such as Flickr.

Why the Ram over the Saluki?

Speculation as to Ram:  Road course therefore suitable for narrower tires; supported ride (rest stops?) therefore no need to carry a lot.

A careful statistical analysis reveals that the Ram and the Saluki have a functional overlap of roughly 98.5935%, which is pretty similar, but a person has to come to a decision. Often there's little or no science to it. On my north woods excursion last week, I had to decide which of my 4 suitable bikes to ride. I decided on the "nut green" Curt Goodrich because the color is a nice complement to the prevailing Fall colors, which means it looks good in photos.

That's a nice preview of the frame headed my way. Mine is canti, too. It will get a pretty standard "Riv build" left over from a slightly-too-big Hilsen I sold to Peter M. The one oddity among the parts is a mid-'90s "CNC era" Precision Billet ProShift rear derailer. I haven't decided on bars yet..might go with the new Boscos.

I have the same 52cm Pewter Saluki... the canti version! This is my first Riv, my first 650b bike and my first post here. Just picked her up not long ago. I have most of the parts ready to go, mostly used from here and there, and am waiting to find wheels. I'll post photos when I'm done, but here she is all bare:

I'd be curious to see your two head badges.

The recent finding and acquisition of (not one but) TWO pewter Saluki, Jeremy's in such fine condition, and Joe's new inna box, merits a major TOAST when the port comes 'round after dinner........Huzzah, Huzzah!

Congratulations,
Marc

Funny. Actually, they have a very different feel despite having the same TT length. The Ram is a 52 with lower BB and longer HT, different rake and trail than the Saluki. The Saluki is a 50 with a shallower frame, and handles front weight loads better. Mine has fatter tires and easier gearing. I figured on a road course the Brevet bike (Ram) was a better option.  As it was, I was slow both days (wind, hills, lard) so either would have worked.

The ATROCIOUS pavement in rural MS between Jackson and Vicksburg would have been much better handled on the Saluki. The Day 2 ride on the Natchez Trace was great on the Ram. I need to get back there and ride that all the way.

One of the young bike shop SAG support guys recognized the bike and smirked, "Yeah I peek at the web site once in a while to see what old Grant P is up to..."
