SAM OR BLERIOT

I've got a Bleriot I love, but it doesn't fit; have the chance to buy a new Bleriot frameset that does.

Is a Sam H better than a Bleriot ? Or not. 90% of my transportation is by bike: commuting (all weather);shopping, sometimes heavy; light touring.

Better or not is an impossible question to answer. What sizes are you
talking about?

Bleriots not being available makes them somewhat more desirable, I
think. You'll be able to sell yours wrong sized one quite easily
because of it (even on this board), and if you are getting a good
price on the other one, that's pretty fortunate for you. Sams are
current, and will probably remain so for quite some time, so your
chance to get one is not likely going to go away.

I love my Bleriot. I also prefer a straight tt. I wouldn't turn down
a Sam and I may buy one someday but I would pick a Bleriot in a fist
fight.

I think the difference between the two bikes is use. The Sam can
handle wider tires and uses Canti's ( most of them) which means it can
do more rough duty than the Bleriot. If you do more dirt riding or
fully loaded touring the Sam is a better pick.

Sams also have kickstand plates which are fantastic little devices.

if you ride a frame bigger than a 52, you're looking at different
wheel sizes. for the kind of riding you described, i'd just get the
other Bleriot frameset and swap parts - otherwise you're looking at a
new wheelset and possibly brakes if you don't already have them. in
short, no need for a Sam unless you really want a Sam.

I'm curious though - what's the fit situation?

What could be referred to as a "high class problem..."  - i.e. good vs. better.

One other missing set of bits on the Bleriot was the mid-fork/seatstay braze-ons.  That greatly simplifies some rack setups.   No P-clamps necessary, which is a better thing in my book.  And I like canti's.

For me, if money weren't part of the equation, I'd go for the Sam, get a Mark's Rack on the back and a Nitto Mini-front on the front and it would do pretty much anything I could envision.

Plus you get the bigger clearances for tires/fenders, as well as the cool and useful-for-everything-but-muddy-cyclocross kickstand plate.

And you can get orange. Mmmmmmm..... orange......
