Anyone used this brand? Like, dislike, quirks, quality, craftsmanship? Specifically, the E3 Pro 2 and the tail light? Or the brand in general.

Kellie,
Good build quality. I have one as well as a same gen edelux and it's not as bright. Can't comment on the latest gen and whether they've kept up. For awhile supernova had the brightest option with the e3.

They do require proprietary tail lights if that makes a difference for you.

One thing I like about my supernova is that I hang it upside down, optics allow this though they warn about possible water leaks bexause the bottom is not sealed.

In case pure lumens are your thing, the K-Lite from the quirky and friendly and stream-of-consciousness Kerry in NSW, Australia is brighter with a claimed 1200 lumens on High (600, I think, on L). I seriously considered the Supernova E3 before reviews led me to choose the K-Lite (which Lael whatshername used for her record breaking cross-country trip earlier this year).

I haven't yet used the K-Lite off road at night, but I keep planning to do so and will report when I do (easier now that darkness is falling earlier). But on pavement it's PDG.

The K-Lite has a claimed 1 m capacitor and a low of 600 lumens, and can be ordered with a gizmo charger. The system is rather a mess of already-joined wires and mean to be zip tied to the frame; I installed a little top tube pack as a junction/switch/capacitor housing (just waiting for my prudence to let its guard down before I order a custom from D Banzer), and Chauncey rigged some very elegant wire attachments on the fork leg to allow fixing of a wire that cannot be threaded through the usual braze ons.

All of this to say that, so far, I'm glad I chose the K-Lite over the E3.

Sheesh! That should obviously read: "10 minute capacitor".

I Like mine. I dislike the rear tail light attachment as you need to splice it in and the shrink wrap is a pain but the light as a whole is solid. I'd buy it again, which is a pretty strong statement.

I liked mine. They are not being used no that I am down to one bike. I mounted the tailight o the housing of a bUsh & Mueller taillight body so I could mount it on a fender

Besides the IQ-X being new, you want to switch because..........?

Iqx is the brightest dyno right now I think. 100lux or so.

Yea, when I switched from 1st gen Supernova to the 80 lux iQ Premium Cyo T Senso it was a pretty big difference in the real world.  The beam was too narrow on the Supernova for riding in the dark at high speeds.  I would usually stay behind someone with a better light on downhills when doing Rando rides.  The IQ Premium is much better..  I don't blame you for wanting the IQ-X, that's another 20lux or 25% brighter again than my light.

I have the IQ-X on two bikes. Super bright with a very nice beam pattern. I have mine adjusted so the leading edge of the lighted area is about 150 feet in front of me—it’s that bright, but also very well focused to avoid blinding oncoming riders and motorists. And … if you need, the mount rotates to use in the “upside down” position.

As a mechanic I've worked on and installed a lot of dynamo lights from B&M, Supernova, and various OEM (read: cheep) brands, and I've always really liked the supernova stuff.  It definitely doesn't win on size and brightness of beam (B&M is winning that these days, as others have noted), but in my book it wins in terms of the quality and beefiness of the casing, mounting hardware, and wiring.  It feels quality, is easy to adjust, stays adjusted, and can take a few knocks.  There are a couple of tricks to doing the tailight wiring splice properly, but they are all outlined in their instructions and once it's made, that's a really beefy connection.  The wiring has thicker protective casing against rips and abrasion than the stock stuff on B&M lights.  Yes, proprietary taillight, but it's a really cool taillight that probably wins on the wide angle visibility to size ratio.

I haven't worked on the Schmidt stuff that much, so I can't compare, but that sounds like it combines good quality hardware with the electronics and wiring of the B&M stuff.

I recently got a deal on a couple of Luxos U's, so that's what I'm running currently, but I got a Supernova for my wife's bike, who loves her bike but is not the most gentle with it.

Schmidt uses their own electronics. Also, they use a heavy co-axial wire to connect the hub and headlight, as well as the headlight and taillight. Even 15 years ago, when they were selling Busch & Müller headlights, before they started making their own, they modified the Lumotecs with the same heavy duty co-axial wiring they use on their own lights today.

I like everything about mine except there is no fender mounted taillight available.

That means you must use a rack mount or seatpost mount.

There are adapters to set up the lights in different ways. Supernova provides a handlebar mount and brake mount for the headlight and there's the Gino mount by Paul for a taillight. I'm looking at trying to do this........ (of course NOT with disc brakes)

Here's a neat mod of a Honjo fender to accept the Supernova rack mount light, by Steve Rex:

Great mod.  Great rack, too -- does anyone know what it is?

That is a custom (and expensive) rack that Steve Rex does for his custom frames. I got one (plus his custom front rack as well) on my 650b custom. They're not available off the shelf, but I'm sure he'd build you one if you wanted.
