Do the new Cheviots allow rear center pull brakes? (cable stop on top of the diagatube) I've seen pics both ways, but not sure if the new ones have moved the bosses. Not a show-stopper, just curious as I contemplate a build.

I installed Paul centerpulls on mine, using the trick discovered from a Sheldon post, by reversing the rear one. Had to cut off the pump peg so it wouldn't interfere. It works and looks awesome.

Marty,

I believe the brake cable braze-ons are positioned with the Tektro (or other?) sidepull brakes in mind.  I think that is what Rivendell will tell you, at least that is what they told me.  A centerpull brake will definitely work on the front but the rear is where the creativity comes in as the cable stop is canted over to one side, I think to allow better cable routing for a sidepull brake.   That said, people have figured out modifications to make centerpulls work, though usually with a fair amount of work.

It could be these would help, but there might be other problems:  https://www.rivbike.com/collections/braking/products/clamp-on-cable-stops

Search the list for "cheviot brakes" and you will find more info and some pictures.  The shop that built my Cheviot used a variation of what I believe Rene did (with Paul centerpulls) and it worked beautifully though I will say no more...  The bike is perfect though, at least in its context, which is pretty much *my* context these days!  If you use FB, search for "Queen CIty Cycles" and scroll down to the grey Cheviot build.

I will add this picture as the variation to Rene's excellent work on this.  My hand is not steady enough for such things but it is good to know people who have such skills... Hopefully the picture appears here!

Thanks guys. Looks like some options that make sense. Not ruling out side pulls, but I do like the Pauls.

Since for hard braking most of the effect comes from the front brake, and Paul's are available singly, Paul front sidepull rear could be a good compromise.
