In the last couple missives, Will mentions a new handlebar for 2025. Curious if anyone has any insight on what it will be and/or any guesses or wishes. Anyone know? I'm sure we'll see photos from Philly soon enough.

Cheers,

John

Isn’t this the one he mentions that’s halfway between a Wavie bar and a Billie bar?

Ah! You're right! He did say that in the Jan 4 email.
Okay, cool... I'd forgotten.
That's exciting if it's reasonably wide (but not crazy wide) with some rise and sweep around 50-60° and a 25.4 clamp.
Look forward to seeing the prototype.

cheers,

John

The magic components Moth Bar kinda fits the description.
60° Sweep, 50mm rise, 745mm wide
The more the merrier!

Definitely excited to see it.  I have long wished for just a 60cm wide Albatross, I love that bar as it is but it's just a smidge too narrow for me.  Lots of super-wide options but not much in the "just a little wider" range.

Could these bars pictured on Roman's Hillborne be the new ones? If not, does anyone know what they are?

I like that bar --  looks good on Roman's Hillborne!.  Appears to be similar to the Velo Orange granola bar, which is only available in 31.8. (VO specs: 650 wide, 60* sweep and 30mm rise). I have one mounted on a long Nitto TIG 31.8 FacePlater on a 1990 Trek 520.

Coincidentally (or not) I've been thinking of replacing the Trek - the frame is a bit small for me - with a Hillborne.

The wording of that staff bike post does imply a midway sort of swept back bar!
They look kind of similar to the KT Bars, but it’s hard to say.

Either way, we will find out soon. And I am curious to try bars like that on my Appaloosa!

Good eyes, David! The bars on Roman's could be Nitto b355 "Kite" bars, but it's hard to tell. The problem with the Kite bars, for me, is width (not enough) and forwards sweep (too much). Hoping for something similar, but wider.

cheers,

It has the red stripe like a Nitto alu heat treated. I think it is the new Riv bar, given that he had an Albatross on it in the prior build version, and we know Roman is taking a personal bike to Philly Bike Expo, along with the other Riv attendees

Where’s the photo in question?

very curious to know what Roman's front rack is. It has different details than both the obento and the basket rack, but is just as wide, wider than the marks rack platform.

Looks like the basket rack with shorter struts and the goofy front extension cut off

Good eye - I’d say based on Will’s description, the Nitto label, and the 25.4 clamp, those are them. They look great!

Philip, it is linked earlier in this thread, but it is the (currently) latest post on Rivbike.com in the News / Photo galleries / Staff bikes area

There's an initial report from Philly Bike Expo up at Bikepacking.com with what I think are another prototype of the new bars on a Platypus... although these look a little different than the ones on Roman's Sam (they're sleeved, for one thing).

Thes are the bars  essentially a cross between Billies & Wavies. ~680 width, made by Nitto. 25.4 I think.

That’s them.

The Goldilocks bars.

I’m sure the first run will sellout fast.

We’re all going to want in on some!

I think that there are two bars in the works.  I think the one on the platy is going to replace the Tosco.  I heard that one is getting cut because it's a little "redundant" in the bar line up.  Curious to see how that one is.

I have seen the Alba/Wavie bar, now twice.  I think the first time was actually the one on Romans bike, but more recently I saw an unnamed riv employee and they had a more updated version of the , that was said to be closer to the final version. I checked it out and it looks pretty good.  I also recently took a pair of Alba bars and bent them, but ended up dimpling the bar.  I was bummed because the shape looks absolutely sweet.
So between my bent alba and seeing a more "final" prototype. I can say that the prototype looks like the ones I bent but with less flair out.  they felt really really good.

Cutting the tosco would be a crime. It seems way more popular than the Losco.

I know.  I just switched out my Ortho bars for a 65cm size Tosco.  I had to buy a whole new stem for the 31.8 clamp.  I had 60cm tosco but put those on the clem when I got the oaths.  it was a whole thing but worth it as Im loving the 65cm tosco.  it's weird to me that they would cut it.  I want to buy another pair (someone on RBW is selling a pair of 65cm tosco), but I don't want to hoard shit and then have the new bars come out....
I will probably buy those Alba/Wavies as I like the alba and I was thinking about wavies...  but I a think I want a little more flair as I have been riding wider bars so I might try and bend another pair of Albas to get what im looking for....
but I think that's why the new Clems didn't come with Toscos is because that bar is getting cut.

It seems like the Tosco is more popular than the Bosco. I find it shocking they would discontinue that one

I really like the look of the Platy one. The one on Roman's bike is nice but doen't grab me as much as that other one

I know. I’d anything cut the bosco. The flatter ramps of the Tosco feels way better.
Yeah I think they did two protos. One more Wavie and one more Alaba and I think they liked the alba one better. It felt really good and I’ll probably buy them as soon as they come out even though I’m happy with my toscos.

Bikepacking.com had a few shots of new bars being shown at the Philly Bike Expo last weekend:

Look like a good 25.4 alternative to the Simworks Fun 3 bar, which was the next one I wanted to play with. Looks like I'll also be trying this new bar instead, no need to purchase a 31.8 quill stem.

I wanted to like the Fun 3 bar but it gave me wrist pain after 10ish miles and after a month I said goodbye to it and put it on a Bridgestone I built up for a friend. That's not really saying much though since just about every upright bar has been uncomfortable after 10sih miles.

Not trying to talk you out of the new RBW bar, but the Fun 3 does come in a 25.4 clamp diameter (in Crmo).
