Hi.  Anyone ride the Velo-Orange Quill Stem?  Have a pic of it on your bike?  Thoughts on the stem? I think it's a nice looking stem, clean, simple,  tallish, shiny. Wish it was 25.4mm though, but I can shim. Their site doesn't have any on-bike shots.

Also, anyone have a good match for touch-up nail polish or paint for a 2021 Orange Appaloosa? Mine has a few small chips.  Will told me that Joe Bell recommends nail polish, just gotta find the right color. Screen Shot 2022-10-20 at 3.20.08 PM.png

I have VO's other 2-bolt stem.  the finish is nice. The stem itself is tapered and 90 degrees.  I just added this shifter pod for my front derailleur and bell.
I was a little disappointed that the bolts developed surface rust after only a few months.  VO sent me all replacement hardware and a couple of stickers for my trouble.

Thanks for sharing Tom. Your VO two bolt stem setup looks nice. Bummer the bolts rusted. I wonder why it happened so fast. Glad they sent some new ones tho. Do you run a shim or are your bars 31.8mm clamp area? Looks clean either way.

I'm running the VO shim for the Bosco Bars, yes.

I found that the VO 31.8 2-bolt stem tended to slip at the clamp more than any other similar stem, so I will stick to 4-bolt clamp for the removable faceplate style going forward personally.  Moreso than traditional single bolt stems, even!

I like VO products but have a tough time justifying anything other than Nitto for stems, to be honest

Thanks for the input Jason.  I really wish Nitto made a tall 90 degree (no rise or drop) stem, aluminum one bolt, and/or a steel four bolt version in 25.4mm clamp.  I currently run a Nitto Periscopa (30 degree rise, 80mm reach).  It works fine with Sim Works Little Nick flat bars, but I prefer the look of a 90 degree stem.  Was thinking of settling for the VO one bolt fillet brazed Quill, but that still has a rise of 17 degree and its 26mm clamp, so i'd need a shim. VO 2 bolt is sold out and is 31.8mm.  Sim Works has a 90 degree called the Lettuce stem made by Nitto that looks pretty good, but it's not tall enough for my liking.  A few pics of my Appaloosa with the Periscopa:

FWIW I think your Appaloosa looks cool with the flat bar and Periscopa. I like the minimalist vibe.

Thanks Joe. I like it too, just kinda strange to me that Nitto doesn't really offer a 90 degree stem, I think they would look good on non-flat top tube bikes.

I just recently found some "hemi orange" engine paint at canadian tire that was *acceptably close* to clementine orange which is maybe close to the appaloosa orange. It's a common color for car folks so can't imagine it too hard to find wherever you live. Places (auto stores) often have "touch up pens" as well.

Thanks Mackenzy, that makes sense. I’ll give it a try.
