Sorry if this isn't Riv-related, but I know there are a lot of Bay
Area people here, so I thought I'd put the word out.

A friend of mine had her bike stolen last night in North Oakland last
night, an Ed Litton custom, bright yellow. Her name (Nina) is written
on the top tube (if it's not been scratched off). There aren't too
many of them in the world, so if you happen to see a yellow Ed Litton
frame around, chances are it's hers!

Send an email if you hear anything. Thanks!

If her name has been scratched off, or stickered over, can you
describe it any more than just "yellow"? What size? Was it built
up? Any pictures?

Very good point. I'll see if there's a picture, but in the meantime,
here's a description:

Custom-built steel lugged Ed Litton touring frame, 55cm, Shimano 105
triple crank, bar-end shifters, black Terry women's saddle. Canary
yellow single-color frame with black "Ed Litton" logo, black cork
handlebar tape. Serial number begins with E1...

Thanks again. Small chance of finding it, but always worth a try.

Hi All,

Thanks for those who kept a look-out. The bike has been retrieved!
Berkeley locals might find this interesting: When it first got stolen,
we talked to the guy at Karim* to let him know about the bike, and
when someone came in to pump up his tires a few days ago, Karim told
him he knew who's bike it was and to call. The bike's new owner hated
to give up the best riding bike he'd ever owned, but he called and
returned it.

*For those not from the Bay Area, Karim is a low-end second-hand bike
shop that has a reputation for selling stolen bikes. For what it's
worth, Karim himself insisted that we tell the internet that he
doesn't make a business of selling stolen bikes, and that this episode
should demonstrate that. (I have no opinion about this.) Either way,
my friend is very happy to be back on her bike.

That's tremendous news that Nina got her Litton back. I can't dispute
your instincts regarding Karim. Kudos to him for making the
connection, though.

Please make sure to show us your Hilsen when you get it!

If you want a chuckle google karim bike berkeley and read the
reviews ... hilarious.

Does Karim do special orders?

It is to his credit that the bike was returned.

Good ending to the story.
