I saw this Romulus for sale on Minneapolis craigslist. It seems a bit suspicious considering the low price and the fact the seller does not even seem to know the size or based on his post much about bikes at all.  I am wondering if this bike is stolen.

The absence of the seat post and saddle makes me wonder, too. Were they
removed to prevent theft of the saddle while the bike was locked up
somewhere? How else do you get a fully equipped bike minus seat post
and saddle?

The bike also appears to be missing the front brake.

Looks like at least the front brake is missing, too. Perhaps some
parts were swiped for a fixed-gear project.

That's the very definition of a sketchy CL ad. I've cross-posted this
to Mpls Bike Love, hope someone gets their Romulus back!

I have written to the person offering the Romulus.  I work in Maple Grove and will try to check it out further if I get a response from that person.  I have checked on both of my Romulus bikes and they are both where they should be.  I will report further if I get a response.

$500 cash only? Pretty suspicious indeed. And as stated the guy
doesn't seem to know much about bicycles. Maybe a generalization but
most people that deal or ride Rivs have a pretty good idea about what
they have in hand. Keep us posted John.

This is pretty obviously a stolen bike. If the real owner sees this
listing he might be able to get a Minneapolis cop to make the trip
with him.

I have been BANNED from the bicycle lifestyle list for suggesting what I would do when finding such a person listing a stolen bike for sale... so will refrain from that here.  I should send a you-tube link for George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words to the Puritans over there and really blow their mind!

Hi

The person offering the $500 Romulus responded yesterday and offered some times when I could see the bike yesterday and today.  It was not convenient to do it yesterday - I was called in to work.  When I contacted that person just a few minutes ago to offer to stop by I was told that the bike already sold today.  I never was given a name, phone number or address.  Sorry I could not get more information on this.

Suspicious?...yes. Stolen?...maybe. While I agree with everything
everyone has said, it is possible that this is legit. Most 6-ish year
old bikes that sold for what the Rom sold for originally would be
lucky to fetch $500. It doesn't seem that implausible. Wasn't there a
coupled Atlantis that went for $800 a few months back? Deals come up,
due your due diligence, and happy riding to whomever is lucky enough
to be first in line.

And if it is stolen..a 1,000 lashes with a shellacked noodle bar(with
cloth tape, of course)

Cheers!

Don't be fooled. Of course it was hot. I hope you're correct, but the odds are slim.
