From Kent Peterson's blog. Hoozizit? My '03 559-wheel Curt custom
fixed gear is the same color -- a lovely sage green with cream trim.
Perhaps my favorite among Riv color schemes.

Now that is a fat tired bike I could love. I'd put on drop bars and
replace the bottle cage, but other wise, what a great knock-about,
on-and-off road ride. My Fargo is conceptually very similar but it's
heavy and -- 'nother question below -- doesn't handle like a
Rivendell. Now, I would not trade either of my skinny-tired customs
for the bike in the photo, but the photo bike would be a close, let's
say #2, on the short list of bikes I'd like to add to my collection:
derailleur road bike with skinny tires #1; light 29er #3. Combo bike
perhaps #2.

T'other question: Don't get me wrong: the Fargo is wonderfully
versatile. But (1) it is a tank, as it ought to be for a combo dirt
and touring bike; and, (2), it does not handle like the Rivs I love.
In particular, it doesn't obediently, "automatically" and
"intuitively" follow your intentions around corners; it hesitates; you
have to guide it; and then it turns rather awkwardly -- all this by
comparison to the, for me, ideal turn-in qualities of Rivendells.
OTOH, it is stable on fast straights and, more particularly, does not
wander frighteningly when climbing seated up steep hills in small
gears with rear loads. My Sam Hill kept trying to dart into the
traffic in such circumstances.

Is front-center a key reason for this combo of (relatively) sluggish
turn in and straight line stability? I realize that other factors --
head angle, rake -- probably affect this, but compared to the Fargo my
Rivs have long stays and short front centers: if they were built
around 700C wheels there would be lots of toe/front wheel overlap.
Anyone?

Looks like the outside of Free Range Cycles, maybe. Another Seattle Riv?

Looks like maybe a W-built AR, or maybe a Match-built. It looks to have the old fork crown but I am not sure about the lug shorelines. IIRC the W-builts were a little curlicue-ier. And maybe a color that wasn't available with the W-builts.
