Wow, that's a helluva weighty hint Dave dropped today in the RBW Tumblr blug. Hilsen, Atlantis, and Hunq are all getting "longer" AND will now have limited upgrades/changes/customizations available. I like it! Go Riv!!

Don't want a kickstand plate, and prefer a normal chainstay bridge? Done!
Prefer Mafac-RAID style centerpulls with brazed posts? Done!
Alternate colours? Done!

And if "longer" means both extended top tubes and a skosh more chainstay, well, that might be quite nice. I say let them try it, and if a rider really wants the older geometry, I'm sure those older models will be available (and now at a higher used price, perhaps). Or, a few years down the path, Riv might relax the lengths, we'll see. But I think the future looks BRIGHT, indeed, for new stock frames from RBW. Good on 'em for taking the risk to change up a bit.

They're changing up a LOT. I remember when I would have been riding 53-54 Rivbikes with very little standover clearance and a fistfull of seatpost. Now I fit 48cm (45 on the Clem) with a sloping toptube and lots of seatpost on a long frame. Change can be good for business, and I like where Rivendell is headed.

Repeating what I said in an earlier post:  A Hilsen with braze on Paul RacerMs would be quite the bike!

Agree, 100%.  Love my Hilsen - would love it even more with braze-on centerpulls.

Isn't a braze-on racer hilsen the same thing as an Ocean Air Cycles Rambler?

Joe,

high trail <> low trail
fat tubes <> skinny tubes

So, still pretty different! But, agree that the mission statement would be similar.

Best,

Except the Hilsen is lugged and and painted. Isn't the rambler powder coated and TIG welded?

...and I'd be happy to spend my money into the coffers of either business
...and I'd be happy to ride either one of them

One of each!

On an AHH I think that would need to be racer, racerm would be for a rodeo no?

I'm a fortunate bloke with a AHH and a Rambler and love them both. Considering my different builds and the things already mentioned, they are quite different for me.

"Just trust us, we know what's best for you" .    Sounds familiar , huh ?  Ahahahahaahah .   Isn't it funny how "best" is always changing , todays best is tomorrow's relagation to also-ran.  This is no specific to anyone in particular , really humanity itself .  Ever fickle, undecided. Change is applauded one day and cursed the next.

Just who can you trust , who truly knows "best" ?   Hmmmm , who ever said there is a best, worst, good, bad, etc. etc. ?  Take away the polarity and what do you have ?  Perfect stillness, which contains All and is subject to none.

  Yes.  . . . it is all-ways a good day to Ride with a wondrous , inexplicable smile !

"Six-fifty-bee" on the mid-sized Hunqs!?!  They read my mind.  That's why I always wanted a Bombadil.  Guess I'll need to start kicking the savings plan into high gear.

A few years ago there was a very funny post here by a good Bay Area customer who owned a few Rivendells and went to Walnut Creek to buy their latest design. (I think) Vince told him he had enough bikes and sent him home.  Wouldn't sell it to him.  Priceless.

I've fit a fender and 32 tires under RacerMs on a custom.  Maybe others would want to go larger, but I would be happy with that on a Hilsen.

Anyway, not sure there are plans to do RacerM braze on for the Rodeo.

If brazing on posts I gues you can put them as low as you want, so ....
Might look a bit odd though. Anyway I was just thinking of what the design reach for bolt on brakes is for those models

Funny. I asked a few years ago to get a Hilsen with Paul Racer braze-ons and Riv refused due to the tubes not being stout enough.

I ended up buying a used Saluki instead and one day will get those braze ones added.

That seems very odd to me, given how many substantially lighter rando bikes are out there with Racers on them.

I thought so too. Keven said back in 2012 that
Not an option on the AHH.

It would require stouter fork blades and seat stays than we normally spec for the bike.

Obviously it's a moot point now.

I brazed canti posts onto the seatstays of my Hilsen and replaced the fork with a surplus canti fork from a Hillborne. No problems so far... Even thinking about unbrazing them a rebrazing them 19mm lower to convert my 700c Hilsen to a 650b for use with the new 48mm compass tires. 'twould fit and only drop the BB height by 7-8mm.

I was of the understanding this had more to do with Waterford's comfort level, than Riv's. I know that there was some concern about low rider mounts being added to Boulder forks which use the light fork blades.
