Dear Rivenfolk;

I'll be visiting the Bay Area for a week starting this weekend. It's
for an indulgent last-chance-grasp for summer.

While I'm there I'll need a bicycle to get around on ... and for an
S24O or two.

I know there are lots of people who would offer their prized Riv in a
heartbeat, y'all are some decent folks! But ... I ride at least a 67,
and I know Grant wants to put me on a 71 cm frame. So only a pin-prick
of hope there.

Alternately, I could peruse Craigslist, hoping to score a bicycle
which may fit me. ... like this one which I'm hoping none of you will
pilfer from this post ... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/bik/2728505288.html.

I don't know much about it but it looks like I can swap out the 27"
wheels for a set of 700's and I could ride some plumper puffy tires,
nice.

Finally, I could rent a bicycle, which I know naught nothing about.

Guidance, direction, advice, please, help.

Thanks,

Amit

p.s. why is the price of my bike's airplane ticket more expensive than
mine? http://www.usairways.com/en-US/traveltools/baggage/specialitems.html

I posted the wrong link, maybe I'm a sucker for posting the right one,
but here it is:

I found out because I got to thinking ... man ... this looks like a
Riv I recently saw.

... The inverse of the above, color wise. Cool, 'eh!

I don't know how summery it will be. It's currently 34 degrees (Fahrenheit) and sunny in the Creek, though the high is supposed to be 59. I'd pack an extra layer for riding if I were you. Keep us updated on when you want to ride. There is likely to be at least one member around to ride with if you want a local guide.

Jim is right, not very summery here in the East bay area. Riding the past few days in multi-Layered Wool and Rivs Wooly grippy gloves and still a bit nippy.

Monday and Tuesdays are my days off, so let me know if you want to go for a ride or a Cold and Dark S240 in the East bay Hills this Monday night.

I really thought I was the only Riv riding Biggie fan. I don't have
anything close to a 67 for you but if I did you would be more than
welcome to it.

BTW - spent a year and a half consulting in Detroit. The 72 floor
Marriott GM center was my home away from home. Even was lucky enough
to be in town for the Red Wings Stanley Cup.

Amit,
I highly recommend shipping your bike UPS or Fedex or whatever. It will be cheaper than buying some "vintage" Schwinn, and you'll have YOUR bike to ride. Taking it on a plane, even if it's free, is a hassle, with a lot of risk.

If only there was somebody in the Bay Area, selling a SUPER CHEAP 69cm lugged steel bicycle.  :)

That hugey Fuji finally sold, but you had your chance and passed on it....

but will Amit be buying it a ticket home?!?

Maybe he could buy it a *seat* next to him. I lived with a cellist
once who insisted on doing that. Damn, that was a pricey cello...

I'm ready to ride anytime, Holy Moses, am I ready.

Monday sounds like a plan. But so does Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday.

Friday through Sunday I'm committed to birthday parties and
snowboarding in Tahoe.

I'd really like to see the hills, ride up above the clouds, shoot some
photos, eat some good food and do some bicycle camping. Since this is
my first time riding in the Bay Area, I'm totally open. A grand 'ol
tour to explore would be cool, but so would cherry picking a few
favorite rides and spots.

Thanks y'all for the warm welcome. I'll look forward to seeing -- and
riding, eating, drinking and celebrating with those who can can soon.

I'm So Excited! AHHHH!

Any schedule yet? I'm up for some bike camping.

Summery, though? Not so much. Two days ago I was up on top of
Montebello Road, a beautiful fire road along the ridge line between
the South Bay and the Pacific. As I was riding through a shady spot, I
noticed a frozen puddle. Usually frozen puddles melt in the sunshine
here, but it was about five minutes before sunset and this puddle had
obviously been frozen all day. That's the ground we'll be sleeping
on-- frozen.
