Happy July!

No July thread up, so I guess I will be kicking this one off.

I am in my second week of a new commitment to head into nature every Sunday morning for a 2 hour pause. Blanket, yoga mat, meditation cushion, chair, book(s), and journals accompany me. Photo from this morning in a sycamore grove in the Santa Monica mountains north of the "Murphy House" by a mile or two.

My new-to-me budget Rosco Bubbe build, more on that soon.

K- that sounds like a lovely way to start a day!

I did something more Urban related.  With a bunch a very nice people I found on Instagram, we took an Urban ride to the Philadelphia Naval yard to see Big Boy, the largest currently operating steam engine. We happily rolled past thousands of cars sitting in line to get into the Navy Yard.   After parking, they had to walk at least half a mile.  I did see one Rivendell Atlantis with the rainbow top tube locked up.  Very pretty.

Afterwards, we went to one of the local parks where we hung around and talked for an hour or so.

Armand - that sounds like a holistic experience that is not just about the bike.  I'm going to aim for a similar experience in the next few months - thanks for the inspiration!

Roberta - that sounds great!  I live in a suburb, which is kind of the least friendly option for riding with others when you consider an urban area with many options vs. a small town where you have riding buddies and, less crowds.  I took a steam train with my wife and daughter on family day, it was enjoyable.  I was on our commuter train on Saturday into Toronto to hit up some bike stores, I didn't take my bike, but I've been meaning to for a couple years...I have to plan this!

I had a nice ride this morning and visited an indeginous school (for local kids in this school board to go and learn about indigenous culture) that I hadn't been to for 1-2 years - they had some updated buildings and artwork - it was really nice.

In a recent post about fenders, Patrick Moore mentioned the trails along "the ancient pre-Hispanic acequia irrigation system." Here's my teeny tiny Appaloosa leaning against a giant cottonwood tree that has been around for a few hundred years.

I know that cottonwood well. (Or perhaps its cousin.)

Tyler is riding fat tires for a change. Generally he negotiates sand, roots, rocks, and roads on 32s, riding no-handed.

Nice pics, is the access to that point from Sullivan Ridge? I love riding up there (and also on Westridge when I want to skip some of the climb).

Hi Kiz-san,

Nice to meet you. I’m a Bunch newbie, and I’ve been riding a Rivendell for almost a year now.

Thank you for sharing such lovely Sunday photos.

Once the rainy season is over, I’m thinking about taking a blanket and going on a picnic ride too.

By the way, I really love step-through frames. Which Rivendell model is this one? If you don’t mind, I’d love to see a photo of the whole bike.

Took Mr. Tom Bombadil to Central Oregon for a weeklong trip. 55mm tires and drops are great on the flowly and flat (relative to the Siskiyou mtns) singletrack out there.

Legolas in West Oakland

I took my Legolas out on a meandering voyage around the East Bay, mopping up several little bits on my Wandrer.earth map.  Waaaay out in the farthest reaches of West Oakland, along side the harbor and the cranes that allegedly inspired the Star Wars AT-ATs, I snapped this photo.
