happy holidaze, Gang,

Am I crazy to recall that there was an index sheet / master table of
contents for the Rivendell Reader at some point? Anyone have a copy
available?

I need to find my USB cork!!!

For those of us late to the game, how do we obtain a USB? Also it looks like 44 was sold out, really wanted to read it and doesn't look like there's an electronic version....

I lost my USB as well and would love to get copies of the old readers. Riv doesn’t seem to sell it anymore.

This post prompted me to look through my file of RR's to see how many I'm missing.  Turns out that when I first subscribed they sent me the next issue in publication, #10, along with #'s 3 and 4, which they must've had extras of laying around.  So, I'm missing 1&2 and 5-9.  Looking through this index I notice that there were a lot of good articles in some of those early readers, especially in the 5-9 issues that I'm missing.  Some of those articles used to be posted separately on the Riv website, but I cannot find them there any longer for some reason (e.g., "Raise Dat Stem" (which would have been helpful during a recent thread about drop bars vs. upright), "The Myth of KOPS" (a topic that also pops up now and then), and several articles by well known experts in bicycle construction and riding.  Too bad.

i'm looking to find Grant's thoughts on front loading the bike, specifically his thoughts on carrying the weight on a rack top, or higher than traditional low riders. I know he's written about this, but now going through my readers, I can't find where. Anyone have a clue?

Aha! Thanks for this. Those titles bring back old memories!

Money making suggestion to RBW, no % taken: make a book out of best old Reader articles. Heck, if copyrights are a hassle, make a book just out of Grant's pieces. But if you can include the Maynard Herson articles and the Bontrager ones, all the better. Do keep all the interviews.

Make the book a thick book by selecting generously, of course. Say, 1,000 pages. 44 X average 25 pp -- leave out half; let's say 500 pages. Leather bound calfskin, gilt edged, archival quality paper, full color.

I have to say that the RR was one of the most readable bike "mags" available, when it was available.

I fondly recall the odd timing of issues released, with the consequent "got mine" posts on internet-bob. Those were fun days.

Is the 20th catalog the most recent one?

Even more fun are the pre-Rivendell issues of the Bob Gazette!

I love the idea of the book and would love to buy it. Through in some pictures of Riv Bikes over the years and it would be a must buy. Does anyone know how to download or purchase past issues?

This could be a fascinating thread. Book sections: history of Rivendell, from the BBUSA days; a frames and bikes section, full color plates; a luggage section; a clothing section; etc. Luggage: from the very first, kitchen table saddle wedges to the more than L Vuiton luggage of today (I'm not criticizing, just describing). Those early jerseys that buttoned up the shoulder, with nut buttons. Staff bicycles. Customs. Unusual builds. The NOS inventory that kept Riv going in the early years.

This could be a series of books, as long but not as tedious, as the Chronicles of Barsetshire.

Patrick Moore, who actually read the Chronicles of Barsetshire but wouldn't do it now.

Damn good idea Patrick. But we should be able give Grant our input as to favorite articles. Maybe do it in thematically based volumes eg. frame designs, touring, people. Sounds fun.

Time Life Presents: RIVENDELL

I think that’s a great idea. I’d be interested in revenue graphs for the early years: Reader goes out, revenue shoots up, Grant anxiety ebbs. I just like graphs.

Employee photos and bikes over the years, for sure. Show the evolution of Riv bike geometries, and maybe the Riv influence on the industry.

Please get Olivier Chatelet to lay it out!
