Hello, I have an older (non-hinged) pair of Paul thumbies for Shimano shifters.  I'd like to use Dia-Compe (Silver) friction shift levers on the mounts. I know Riv used to sell an adapter to make this work, but I don't believe it's available on their site any longer.  Does anyone know which piece is needed? or does anyone have this they'd like to sell?
Thank you
Jason

Hi Jason,

The silver adapter is a small baseplate that slips between the flat, squared base of the shimano thumbies and the silver shifter... It looks like downtube shifter mounts with the protruding cylinder with flats. I’d consider selling mine except my wife who had been using my Silver shifters as downtubers just recently mentioned wanting a change... likely to bar mounted index shifting... so I’ll want to hang on to them for a future thumbie build or possibly sell the whole set of shifter/adapter/thumbies together.

Weird that Riv no longer has them. There’s still a link on the Riv Paul thumbies page but goes nowhere. Maybe they sold through stock and won’t replenish with silver 2.0 in the works?

Jason,

The first/top ones I believe.  I do have some but they are needed for a build.  That said, if I find extras in the parts stash, I will let you know.  I did call Paul's at one point to see if they had them directly but they sent me back to Rivendell in my search.  Hopefully they will make another batch and be offered again.

FYI, for those interested, neither Rivendell nor Paul Comp has these items any longer.

The velo orange mount might work.

Hi Jason, I just found a set. Text me your address and I'll get 'em out to you, then you can pay whatever it cost to ship in a padded envelope.

Curious if I can get some guidance on the order of bits when installing Silver (or dia-compe) shifters on the Paul Thumbies with the appropriate adapter (Thanks Joe!).

I've got the shifter installed and snugged down but there's till a little lateral play.  It feels like the whole unit is missing a washer.  Maybe this goes away when a derailleur cable is installed? but I'd like to check here first.

Perhaps someone can comment if I'm setting this up correctly or not.

Here are the shifters installed:

Here is the mount with nothing attached:

And here's the order I've got everything installed:

1) Bolt

2) Shifter

3) Washer that fits snug into the recess in bottom part of shifter assembly

4) Paul/Silver adapter

5) Steel washer with square hole and tab to stop shifter

6) This is where the mount goes

7) Split washer on underside of mount

8) Nut on underside of mount

Thanks in advance for any help

Jason

This video shows how to install a Silver shifter on a downtube. You can see how seating the plastic washer is kind of finicky, I've done it wrong a half-dozen times and gotten the 'wobble' you're describing.

Anybody have a pair of adapters they would sell, with or without shifters? Many thanks
