650b 2.2–2.4 CITY tire recommendations* *Also: Is a tire dead when it has tiny holes from glass?

Hi all, I have a two part post:

Part 1 (See Image, the small punctures above the left and middle large knobs):
Have been suffering from repeated flats on my 27.5 x 2.1 Thunderburts; figured out it was from tiny holes in both tires, presumably from riding over glass or other street junk in NYC. Please take my word that this wasn't just plowing through a pile of glass shards. This must have been small, hardly noticeable stuff. The high-end, supple compound on these tires feels great on the road and has a lot of grip, but I worry they failed so easily in this environment? I rode in the same places at the same frequency with Marathons and even the supple Panaracer Paselas on a different bike and never got flats (really, never!)

My questions regarding this situation:
  • when these tiny punctures happen to a tire, can it be saved? I patched the inside of the tire but I'm not sure how reliable that is. Do you typically keep riding something like that?
  • is it a logical assumption that this tire compound is just not suis

Part 2:
What are your recommendations for 650b x 2.2–2.4 city tires? I think I've noticed via this list that Kainalu V. from Brooklyn swears by G-Ones. Don't those use the same compound as the Thunder burts? 

Looking for a robust, reliable tire in this size range, that I can run on a 52 Clem L with fenders.

Tiny holes don't matter much, I just think you have a thinnish tire (that's worn even thinner) in miserable commute conditions and they can't keep up with it.

I use Marathons (26" version) on my Clem L because I have an electric-hub rear wheel I REALLY don't want to remove out in the field for a flat. Do they ride nice? They do not. Do I get many flats? Also no.

With sealant my delicate tires laugh at glass slivers! If I wasn't on the injured list I'd be plowing through some right now, maybe next week...
I did run Thunderburts on my Clem with tubes+sealant. Hated it. Still got flats. I think if there's an advantage to be had by using sealant filled tubes, those tubes need to be relaxed. By relaxed I mean not stretched out in the tire. I bought some Surly tubes that go up to 3 and some odd inches and have been planning to try them in some 2.35 very worn big ones to see if my theory is right, but gravity has put my test on hiatus.

Plus one for trying sealant. I run TB’s tubeless on my commuter and while I get plenty of punctures I rarely flat. I don’t think I would run TB’s any otherwise - they are a wonderful feel but they have ZERO puncture resistance.

Also they wear out pretty fast. Once they get worn out the punctures are even more common...

I have thunder Burt’s (2.25) and g one all arounds ( 2.25) both measure about 2.35 tho on my rims .  I had no problem with either when it came to flats but running tubeless.  I think I like the g one all arounds better if your gonna be mostly on pavement tho.  I always ride sliced up tires until it’s bad enough that you can’t anymore

I inspect my tires much more frequently than I used to and often am picking various debris out of them that have not yet caused a puncture. I’ve come to the conclusion that many flats are caused not by what I just ran over but by something I ran over yesterday that has finally worked itself through. Secondly, are you sure you have remove the cause of the flats from the tire so that it cannot cause another?

Not sure how wide they go in 650b size, but I've been running 700x50mm Panaracer Gravel King SKs on my Chev for the last 8 months commuting ~15 miles daily in NYC (mostly Brookyn with lots of glass and other city detritus). I've only had one flat and it was a weird phantom flat (not puncture) where the tire wasn't keeping enough pressure but not going entirely flat either. (Could've been a defective tube as I couldn't find any puncture after removing it.) Before the Gravel Kings, I had Continental Sport Contact II (what Riv calls the basketball tire) and was happy with those (only one puncture flat in a year or so). 

Again different size tire, but I have Kenda Kranium 26"x2.1 on my Xtracycle conversion and have been happy with those so far. Much less daily use, however, so can't quite vouch for their longevity just yet.
