I'm such a big fan of taking pics on my rides.

It's fun to see others pics from their rides as well.

This list does some of that but it would be great to see even more.

From yesterday's ride after mounting new
700x43 Gravel King SS tires on my orange Sam.

Only did 8 miles but tires felt outstanding.

I was out & about yesterday evening myself, not telling you anything you don't already know here...it was hot! It was close to 2 hours for me & maybe not the smartest decision.

Not Riv so making a separate thread.

Paul: very well done photos; thanks for sharing.

I miss Patrick whatsis name's photos from the general Pike's Peak area.

I enjoy the pictures of the bikes and the landscapes, but I also enjoy, as far as I can appreciate them in my state of nescience about the craft, the "formal" qualities of the photos -- composition, lighting, clarity, coloring and so on. The qualities of "untweaked" photographs interest me far, far more than manipulations of "base" photographs.

Rode today, thunderstorms approaching and sauna like conditions. Suffered and probably should have stayed home but thought I'd add to the photo stream;

Swiss Avenue - a unique historic district and my former home, and although most famous for its restored mansions a little known & unassuming apartment was the operational center and home of Ron Roodrooff of Dallas Buyer's Club fame.

Originally a depression-era WPA project the Stone Tables at White Rock Lake have recently been restored. As thunder was threatening they were largely deserted but most weekends are full of family celebrations. Just how many picnics and cookouts have these tables seen over nearly 100 years?

Thanks Patrick.
I also miss Deacon Jones posts and pictures. He certainly has a significant skill in capturing stunning pics riding in the Pikes Peak area.

He still has a website I think under Deacon Patrick. A search should pop it up.

Cool pics and historical perspective Philip!

I've ridden up and down Swiss Avenue many times and always enjoy it.

Also your Platypus looks terrific!

Yeah, the heat and humidity. It does get to me also.

A break this week with slightly cooler temps...thank the Lord.
I measured 1.1 inches of rain yesterday and last night.

I got to be the shirtless guy taking a picture of his bike in the River today.
Found a new to me section of the American River that’s just deep enough to float and just shallow enough not to drown. Went full Huck Finn, carrying my bike through some sections downstream before getting lost and having to double back.
This was the turnaround of a fairly spirited ride on a warm day, so the swim was much appreciated.

I'm away from my bikes tending to family health issues, really wanting for a nice long ride like this. This was a weekend trip on my Rambouillet down the Great Allegheny Passage to Cumberland, MD with a Sunday night Amtrak shuttle home.

Yesterday we got out before the triple digit temps. We hit up two local parks, had a blast on the swings, kicked a ball all over the park and ate snacks in the shade of some huge cedars! (Don’t worry, we didn’t leave the hat behind)

Andy,
Looks like a perfect summer GAP ride getting out to enjoy the season.  I notice your extra bottle cage underneath.  I just tried mine on the Mermaid Platy and it interferes with the cables running under the bottom tube.  Do I need a different cage or some special spacers?  I got the cage from Riv when I got the bike a few weeks ago.
Still dreaming of the GAP ride

Kate,

Three is the magic number of big bottles for distances between water sources on summer GAP rides for me. It does mean I have to stop to rotate their positions as I drink them which is not a bad thing.

Sounds like you need to get some longer screws for the bottle cages with some spacer washers to get the base of the cages away from the downtube enough to clear the cables on their run to the bottom bracket.

Only consequence may be that the bottle in that cage's clearance is a few millimeters closer to the front tire/fender.

Looking for pictures of you and your Platy out there in full deployment!

I was able to solve this same problem with a couple of presta valve “nuts” under the bottle cage to space it out juuuust enough to clear the cable while using the same bottle cage bolts. The presta valve nut as a spacer is by no means a new concept, but I can’t help but marvel at their versatility; it’s safe to say that they solve a problem for me at least once a week.

Paul, I've only once ever seen another Riv in Dallas, but now that I know you are here, maybe we will cross paths someday.  During the week, I can be found commuting from about downtown to and back Addison via White Rock, and on the weekend I'm down in Cedar Hill. But right now, my bike is awaiting a new bottom bracket cup...such little things.

Marc, if you see this I like how your blue Hillbourne is set up.

Are those Bosco bars?  The knobs seem like a good idea.

I've run interrupter / cross brake levers on quite a few road bars and like them a lot but not an upright bar.

What do you think of them?

Fred, good to hear from you.

So far I know of Philip, Luis, two Jim's, myself, yourself and Wilson I met a couple weeks ago that all have Rivs in the area.

There may be some I'm overlooking or am unaware of.

And Fran that formerly ran Transit bike shop did have one, a Hunqapillar I think.

They sold Rivs there. Hated to see it close.

Are there any shops in Dallas- Ft Worth area that still carry Rivs?

I'm unaware of any.

At a population of 6 million plus and growing it's a shame if there is not.

Another weekend, another trip up into my favourite valley!  With select friends this time.  And no front fender - because I had the dreaded stick-in-the-fender crumple, over the bars at speed situation last weekend... solo, 25 km from cell service and about 6km from any trail that I'd be likely to see another person before nightfall. I learned more than one lesson that day.

Sorry to hear about the fender incident, I was trying to follow your lead by fitting metal fenders over 2.1" Thunderburts on my new Hunqapillar but quickly decided it wasn't worth the risk.

A few shots from the first ride on my new-to-me Susie W. Longbolts. The smoke finally cleared enough here in Napa to get out for a longer ride. I spent the evening cruising around the trails at a local park, adjusting and getting everything dialed in on the new build. I love this bike so far.  It's swoopy, smooth, and handles rocky trails and singletrack with ease.  It's surprisingly agile, even with the long wheelbase and big tires. I had a lot of fun on it tonight and can't wait to get it out on even longer rides.

From a ride a two months back around White Rock Lake with friend Jim (Riv list follower) on his Homer and me on my orange Sam. Friend Luis was on this ride also but not sure why we didn't get his Homer in pic.

This is with the spillway in the background.

It's between 9 and 10 miles around this in city lake and its heavily used by cyclists, runners, walkers, etc.

It's a wonderful resource within the city but can get crowded at peak times on weekends.

This is probably my favorite background in my general area to take a bike pic.

If I recall correctly there are 116 Magnolia trees bordering these fountains at the University of Texas at Dallas campus.

I was on my Miele bike known as my 'grocery getter' on this day.

Paul in Dallas asked:

Anyone ever bring in their bike for a professional photo?

While not photographic, I did see a portraitist, Taliah Lempert,  who rendered folks' bikes at the 2019 Philadelphia Bike Expo. First saw her pieces here when Johnny Coast had one from her posted on his IG feed.

I thought the interpretive aspect of painting portraiture was interesting, especially when I can see that her eye is caught by details I would focus on without becoming a colorized Rebour work.
