Late to the party as usual, and please ignore if you saw it long ago, but I just stumbled across this while looking for reasonably priced fenders for a friend -- one product was on the Riv website.

For the record: I write resumes for executives; the median range is $200K -- $350K, and often much more than that. I write for all industries and functions, with tech perhaps being dominant. My clients are of all races, cultures, and personality types; if I haven't seen it all, I've seen a very great deal of it.

Also for the record, I am a "small is beautiful" believer, arch-traditionalist (Orthodox Christian) who (to state things provisionally in entirely inadequate conventional categories, and categorizing "in principle" and not "in fact") am a Platonist and monarchist. I am not in any way new age or liberal.

But I have to say that the "About Us" page and especially the embedded video warmed my heart. God damn capitalism (socialism too); the Rivendell business model is simply normal and human. Sure, in Plato's Republic or in Dante's earthly paradise, bicycles and Rivendell would have no part. But in the world we live in, Rivendell is on the side of the angels.

I was struck by the merely human quality of those presented in the video: they want something more than market share, revenue growth, and margin. They are on the side of the traditional Indian and Sinhalese craftsmen whom Ananda Coomaraswamy described as working overtime to their own pecuniary loss, simply for love of what they were doing and for the good of what there were making.

Still 'round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Addendum to the adage: Survival dictates that you are neither the slowest nor the fastest gazelle.

Patrick, I too like this video, and have returned to it several times over the past several years to “touch base” with those things said well, and said genuinely.

I just sent the link of that to our friend here who is car-free and it made getting a Rivendell an objective to her. She loves the bike she rides now, it’s been life changing for her but that video pushed all her buttons.
