I was finally able to pre-order one after hoping the original December timeline would hold. Looks like late March now, but that's OK. I know a few are out there somewhere, so if you have one on the road, show it off and tell us about it! I have no doubt they work as promised and I do like the look. Not holding my breath for a matching front, but that would be nice.

In the mean time, I'll be at the Stop Swap & Save event in Maryland next weekend - always the first sign of Spring around here, and a very welcome one this year for sure!

I too am interested in hearing about experiences with the OM-1.  I'm sitting on the fence about ordering one.  Anyone out there tried it with indexing?  I am currently running the index-only version of DA 10 speed DT shifters.  When I got them I did not realize they made 2 versions - one that is switchable to friction and the other that is indexing only.  Both are $$ on the market now.

I have not ordered or tried this new RD but have used reverse action Shimanos in the past. IMO (and others might disagree) there is not a huge win if you want to run index. The beauty of these is in friction mode

I’m interested in hearing others’ experiences with it too, particularly  (1) for shifting 11 or 12 cogs, in friction, and (2) how well it does this compared to other reverse pull rear derailleurs, like the LX that I used briefly. This reverse pull LX came on my 2010 Sam,  and it certainly shifted 9 cogs in friction precisely and smoothly, and it’s not hard to adapt to the reverse pull.

Patrick Moore, who found even a Huret Alvit and a Simplex pull-chain (reverse pull!) rd to work fine with (Alvit: 5; Simplex: 2) cogs.

Sorry, Cyclo Benelux.

There were few derailleurs of any sort available in that place and time and I’m very curious how this thing ended up behind other junk on the dust of some local bike shop.

I was one of the lucky few to get an OM-1 from the first batch, and I love it. I used an XT rapid rise before, and currently have a Nexave Rapid rise on my Saluki. For reference on all 3 bikes I’ve run 9 speed set ups with 11-32/34 cassettes and double cranksets. Every bike friction shifted with either Silver shifters or Suntour downtube shifters on bar end pods.

The OM-1 definitely feels like it shifts better than the XT I had. The Nexave is heavier, but shifts more similarly. I’ve not had any issues with the OM-1 on my Atlantis riding trails and single track, and love the look/build quality. Happy to answer any specific questions, but I’m definitely planning on getting one for a build I’m currently working on. Can’t think of a better endorsement than the fact I’ll buy a second one!

I managed to get my hands on one from a riv employee, whom I bought a frame from. I don't plan on installing it until I get an atlantis later in the year, but in my hands it looks as it is described: A no-fuss, well-made derailleur that will simply get the job done, very much in rivendell fashion. Looking forward to the front derailleur (and v-brakes!) being released in the future.

Good to know. If and when I friction-ize and silver-ize my Roadeo, perhaps I’ll install an OM-1.

If anyone has shifted 11 speeds with the OM-1, please report on performance.
