Hi,
I equipped my Appaloosa with a Shimano XT 1x11. I like a 42-44 ring and a 11-42 cassette for the 90% on-road riding I use the bike for. It takes a long chain. I found a 11-speed E-bike chain by KMC that had enough links. The time before I needed to use two chains to make the length.
When I got the parts for my overhaul, I ordered a 11-46 cassette. The chain was too short and the derailleur would not go to the largest gears.
So, my dilemma is should I stick with 11-42 or put the 11-46 on and use two chains to make one long enough? My front ring is a 42, before I had a 45. I can make the steepest hills on road, but in the dirt, it will be too low of a climbing gear. I don’t mind walking up hills off road, but will not walk on road (If I wanted to walk, I wouldn’t have brought a bike!)
Happy Holidays!
James-
