Hey guys, I have a 57cm 1984 Univega Speciallisimo touring frame and I'd love to put a 700 drop Sam build on that. Is that doable at my LBS? I'm obviously new at this sort of thing.
Thanks, C

No -- the build kit has sidepull brakes. Your Speciallisimo takes cantis.

I suggest taking the build list and the frame to your LBS and asking. My guess is that some of the new parts won't be 100% compatible with the older frame, and your LBS should be able to help you fill in the gaps.

That brings up another point about brakes. Often these 1980s bikes have very narrow spacing between the cantilever brakes, and new cantilevers and v-brakes don't work.

Do talk your shop Chris, but you won't have too many problems if any. You may not be able to use as wide as tires as a Sam, but for the most part you'll be fine :) here's a photo I found online of the frame for everyone . This one has DC 980- canti's and Sugino AT triple so you'll have no issues with "modern" canti's or cranks. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rese_arch/7175121318/

You won't be able to use as wide a tires as on a Sam, but your shop should help you with what will work, with and without fenders :)
