Nice as is, but begs for a 650B conversion:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200882676560&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123

Might be difficult to do the conversion...

From 700C to 650B, you'll need to drop the brake pads by about 19mm. That appears doable on the front but the rear brake is already mid-slotted so that may be problematic. Furthermore, the current brakes look to be Dia-Compe Mod 750. These brakes have one of the longest brake reaches (of easily obtainable brakes) so it may be difficult to get a longer reach replacement.

You're right, that's a lot of reach already! Plus Rivendells already have a very low bottom bracket, which is another problem. I just see a bike that size and can't help thinking 650B candidate!!! Lot of toe clip overlap on that one by the looks of it.

GREAT, glad someone was able to get what looks to be a great deal!

My first post joining this group.

I purchased this custom Rivendell and am in the process of building my dream bike.  I am aware of the potential for toe overlap, have taken quite a few measurements, and I believe I may be able to avoid the issue on this frame.  The seat tube is 52 cm c-t and the top tube is 54 cm c-c.  Sugino XD crank w 165mm arms and 700c Velocity wheels w/ Schwalbe Marathon Racers (30mm width) are in the plans, along w MKS AR-2 Quill Pedals and MKS Half Clips.  I think this setup will just fit.

I will post again with the (hopefully good) results.

Glad to hear the TCO isn't a problem! That's always my first concern when I see a smaller frame, but leave it to Rivendell to minimize or even eliminate that concern!

It's nice to be able to post the results of a winter build project on the last day of winter.  While I still await the arrival of my Berthoud Trunk bag for the rear rack and Berthoud tire bag for the Dia Compe mini rack, the bike is complete enough for a first ride.  It will need a tweak here and there on the saddle and the lights but overall, it is such a great ride.

My fear of severe toe overlap was overblown as I did not have a single incident of contact unless I actually tried, and under hard turning with toes unnaturally pointing down.  I think some of the contributing factors may be the 165mm cranks, 30mm ties with correspondingly lower tire profile, allowing me to bring the fenders in a bit.

Looking forward to spring!
