I’m making moves in my quartet of Rivs and I stumbled across the new light from Schmidt. I am curious if anyone has been crazy enough drop the money on one and if they would report here about it.

I don’t NEED it. But would it be nice? YES. Now that I’m an intrepid bike camper and all. For instance, E and I got from our campground to the restaurant scene via a single track path in the woods. There was a mud pit that had me skidding and nearly cussing. I’d have seen it with this new light. We used our Edelux lights together to really light up the night. I had mine set closer and his was farther, and thus we had excellent coverage. But reading about this new light…it’s offering quite a bit more brightness. And I’ll be solo in the future, I’m sure.

PLUS IT CHARGES PHONES. And does a good job, from what I hear. Do you know how nice THAT would have been? I had a power strip in a backwards-facing XS Saddlesack on the bars. I left the bag open while charging the phone on the handlebars and…my AirPod case bounced out and was lost on the trail. I used FindMy and tracked it down, but it added an hour and 30 miles of driving to retrieve it.

Anyway, this isn’t necessary, but it would be nice and I want to know HOW NICE.

Thanks!
Leah

Following for sure. I’ve been focusing most of my attention on the Sinewave Beacon 2 but now there is another contender. The Beacon can achieve max. brightness at very slow speeds. I wonder if the Ladelux is competitive in this area?

Rich, yes. It has an internal battery to keep up. It should def be able to go up against Sinewave.

This is a very promising new item from Schmidt. Hoping I can afford one someday down the road when things don't seem so dire.

Richard, my gen 1 Beacon is bright, but annoyingly strobes like crazy once you hit less than 8 mph (something that is a pretty common occurrence when riding rough terrain, especially loaded). I hear the Gen 2 is supposed to handle a more solid output at low speeds, but I am so unimpressed with mine in regards to all the features I explicitly purchased it for, I would not drop the money for another one.

For road riding with dreaded cars is there an option to dim the light?

This looks like a interesting new option. I wonder if there is/will be an option to eliminate the handlebar mount? I feel like a switch on the light itself would be sufficient for switching between high and low beam as you wouldn't be doing that all the time, mostly just if your route switched from road to trail. The required handlebar switch just clutters up handlebars, which are already cluttered enough on touring setups. I also don't dig the proprietary charging cord. Lose it? Outta luck. With the sinewave you can just pick up a standard cable at the next store.

I see that I missed that this new light does indeed have a low and high beam mode. I agree though that handlebars get cluttered so another mounting location option would be ideal

I understand the concern about more clutter on the handlebars, but I actually like that the charger cable is a mag connection up high on the bars. Consider the Beacon, which has a USB-A port directly on the light, which could pose a danger if your light is mounted down low near your front wheel (like most of us do). Dropping a connected device, or a loose cable falling into the spokes while riding has always seemed like a potential disaster to me. At the very least, you're looking at a mangled cable or device. A quick break-away mag connector up high seems safer to me.

I recently installed the new B&M IQ XL on my dirt road bike, which they claim to provide the most light in the business (300 lux with traffic beam, 250 lux “high” and not cut-off beam) as a replacement for a K-Lite that died, but I’ve not yet ridden it when it was fully dark. ll report when I do. Meanwhile, if others have tested in in the dark, what did you find?

I’d prefer the XL if it didn’t automatically default in daylight to a relatively low power/low drag daytime running light but the light does have a remote control switch.

The Ladelux does not ship to me with a mount. So you would choose between pretty much any 10mm mount, the German standard interface between the headlight housing and the mount. SON makes several mounts for the handlebar and the fork crown. The switch can be mounted to the handlebar, to the stem, or to a mount.

This mount is highly adjustable. Below is an example of mounting the Ladelux and switch to the underside of the handlebar.

Here is that mount, with the Ladelux attached towards the front, and the switch attached to the vertical spacer.
