Took a little ride to the grocery store with the Bosco bar in service and an assortment of Sackvilles.

The Bosco really is nice. And when riding it looks pretty good too, which frankly surprised me. The extra 2-3cm over the Albatross bars is actually noticeable. I put it on a10cm Tallux for now. It feels good. I think it'd feel even better with a 12cm. And the Tallux is sunk deeply enough that I'm sure a regular Deluxe would work. (Anybody have one they'd like to trade/sell? I'd want a 12cm Technomic Deluxe with a 25.4mm clamp diameter.) I really just love a wide bar with the grips oriented that way. The position is very upright but open. I used the flat horizontal hold briefly. It let me stretch out a bit but won't be something I'd do for long. For me it's basically a single-hold bar.

After riding a little bit it struck me that, from the saddle, something about the aesthetic of the naked Bosco reminds me of the dashboard of a '70s Buick station wagon. Go figure.

My son's Duster is rare in having a saddlebag support and a canvas bar bag. Camping is fun for the whole family!

I really like those wood grips (seen in the pic) that RBW sold briefly. I still regret not having gotten a pair of the light colored ones too. To ward off a similar regret, I'm contemplating a second PlatRack. SlickerSack in front with a tent on top, SaddleSack Large in rear with rain gear strapped on. That's room for a luxurious S24O.

Whoa Thomas! That bike is seriously Sacked up! Double decker! I love it! (plus not to mention the great reports on the Bosco's)

Thomas,

I had to laugh when i saw this picture, i have a lot of bags but i rarely do the double decker high/low combination, that is some serious hauling capacity!

Yeah, the only Sackville I haven't rationalized yet is the SaddleSack Small. Not that I don't have one, mind you. But I just don't use it. I'll put it up for sale soon. All of the others get regular if not constant use. The SlickerSack and SaddleSack Medium share daily commute duties. I love 'em all. Now if they would only make them in tan, too... :)

I count myself fortunate in having a big enough bike with a high enough bar to use my BarSack with the SlickerSack or the TrunkSack Small or even the ShopSack Medium in its basket underneath it. Having those readily accessible pockets on the BarSack is a treat. On my non-BarSack compatible cockpits I do what I can: an Acorn bag that's got some convenient pockets for the Moustache and a beausageful Baggins Keven's or a SaddleSack XS for the gorgeous Bullmoose.

Like they say... A well-used bag holds the journeys taken. And in this case flour and sausage for tomorrow's sausage biscuit breakfast!

I like the "bar bag above basket" setup, too. It's particularly useful if you have a quick on/off handlebar bag like the Berthoud Klik-Fix mounts; the bar bag rotates up to get complete access to the basket, without even taking it off. I used a small version of that setup (with a Medium Shopsack lining the basket) a couple of summers ago on an Adirondacks tour on my Atlantis, and it was great.

I highly recommend the Klik-Fix bar bags -- they're very solid, don't require a decaleur OR a rack, and are literally 2 seconds to take off or put on. My Atlantis now has the bigger version of the Berthoud Klik-Fix bar bag (GB 805, here:
http://www.wallbike.com/berthoud/handlebar-bags/berthoud-large-klickfix-handlebar-bag-gb805 ) over a medium Wald basket on a Nitto Mini, and it's just a great setup.
