Who wants to do: Le Tour de Shore, Chicago-New Buffalo

I did this ride last summer and it was a blast. Just gorgeous and such an experience. Leif on this List invited me to join his group, who had been doing the ride for 10 years. They were the nicest people and I had such a good time.

I hope I can convince some of you to do this ride this summer. We could form a group and ride together. I’ll be staying in a hotel, because at the end of the day I want a shower and hot food I do not have to cook, and I want coffee in the morning. But you can camp if you wish. I was the only hotel-dweller last year, so I just arranged to meet the group at a certain time the next morning. 

It’s a casual ride, but you do have like 50+ miles to go each day, so it’s nice to keep a good pace. There are a lot of stops along the way for food and drinks.

This looks interesting. Being from Chicago adds to the appeal. Will have to see how this will work with my schedule. I have a friend that wants to do RAGBRAI this year. I am pondering that also. Kind of want to redeem myself for bonking out trying to ride Day 1 a couple years ago on the 50th anniversary RAGBRAI.

I'd like to ride this 'Le Tour de Shore' but just committed to my 8th RAGBRAI and two long solo drives from Pittsburgh is more than Im willing to suffer!  If i find a carpool opportunity to either one, I'll jump in.

BTW, does RAGBRAI still totally fill up on day one? We’re 3x finishers but no longer live nearby. 

So…should we take a long roadtrip and do it one more time, just for ducks?

Thanks Rusty,

I have myself to blame for it. I decided pretty much last minute to deadhead the first day ride since I had that weekend off. I also tried to do make a century out of it by reversing course at the second to last stop. I ended up with about 63 miles that day and the total miles to the first stop city was 72 or so, if I remember correctly. Rescue SAG picked me and my bike up and took me to first stop town and a friend came out to get me and bring me back to Sioux City for my car. My friend, who just got back into riding the fall before was taken aback by the whole endeavor. She did her first organized ride a month later when she did the 5 mile course of Corporate Cycling Challenge in Omaha.

Anyway, I sort of kick myself for not just riding it to the first stop city. Looking back with the heat and the hills that would have been accomplishment enough. Live and learn.
