It segways into some horrible music for some cosmically unfathomable reason, so be sure to bail and hit "stop" as the clip ends.

I am certainly no racer; I've entered exactly one race in my life, as a last-minute rope-in for the 13 mile cycling portion up Mt. Taylor, NM, for a very, VERY, amateur team ("Team Schwartzkopf") in the 1990 (I think) Mt. Taylor Quad -- our four man team was hoping to beat one much more fit man who was doing all four of the cycling, running, x-c skiiing, and snow-shoeing portions alone. (I forget if we did or did not beat him -- probably not.) But I can't help being very moved by BB's pure cycling genius. Look at the size of the single chainring, and the size of the cluster; look at the bar tape! And most of all, look at her riding style -- poetry in motion. Even if one is entirely uninterested in the racing/roadie scene, he/she can't but help admire this sort of really exceptional cycling talent.

Aside: it is interesting to dig up old clips of, say, Coppi, or Kubler, and compare them with clips of modern pro riders: to see how in the old days racers spun the cranks at well over 100 rpm on the flats (even higher in the sprints) but had to resort to hi-torque slugging on the hills. In modern downhills, you see riders *standing* to accelerate!

Patrick Moore, who desperately wants to start a slo-mo, old-age racing team called "Greybeards at Play".

All the Graybeard riders can claim they’re taking a GAP year.  (Only amusing for those of us who have dealt recently with the uncertain plans of college-age children.)
