Back Alley Bike Repair located downtown built up my AHH last year and did a great job. Free Range Cycles in Fremont used to carry a riv or two, not sure if they still do but I'd trust them also. I bought a Surly LHT from them years ago and I'd always take it in for servicing.

I second both Back Alley and Free Range. I also recommend Counterbalance (along Burke Gilman near U-village). Recycled Cycles in the U-district has good used parts bind to scavenge.

What area do you live in? I don’t take my bikes to shops for service except for a few things, but when I do need help I go to 20/20 Cycles in the CD. They don’t sell Rivs (or any new bikes) but have a Riv-adjacent philosophy and are good folks. Bike Works and Back Alley are also solid places. Go to a shop that’s nearby, it’s good to have a relationship with your LBS.

Nice, a lot votes for back Alley. I live in Ballard and I’m familiar a lot of the bike shops mentioned. I feel like most places just think it’s weird that I don’t want/have disc brakes. Back alley is a new one for me though!

If you're in Ballard, I'd just go to Free Range in Fremont. They're super close to you, and were at one time a Rivendell dealer. They are also super nice people there, and definitely won't mock you. No "bike shop dude" mentality there - in fact it's a woman owned business.

I would absolutely second (third? fourth?) Free Range. Very cool shop in general, and there was a half-built Cheviot on the floor last time I visited. Owner's bike, if memory serves.

I've also heard great things about Aaron's Bike Repair down in White Center. Haven't personally been.

I like free Range and I used to talk to the original owner about Rivendell all the time but she sold the shop.  That’s where I had the why don’t you want disc conversation.  That said they did a really great job on my wife’s Rivendell.

Another vote for those mentioned already: Back Alley, Free Range, and 20/20. All very welcoming shops with great staff, all very familiar with Riv. Bikeworks is also an amazing shop with awesome mechanics!
