Ok, for you talented folks who are good at soldering dynamo connectors, maybe you can help me with this. I need to re-rig a model sailboat that was made by my wife's grandfather 80 years ago. The standing rigging is what appears to be stainless steel single strand wire, with loops at the ends secured by what looks like solder balls. Photo attached.

Anyone recognize this technique? Any suggestions for how to make and secure loops at the end of wire this fine?

Brilliant, and probably what was used. Thanks!

If you want to skip the soldering, you could look for an appropriately sized crimp sleeve (sometimes called a loop sleeve) locally, maybe at a fishing gear shop?

I tried that and it didn't hold well enough.

In the end I bought some 0.5mm spring wire and formed loops around a miniature screwdriver shaft, using pliers and the shaft to twist the wire. It's holding quite well, but might mix some epoxy and use that to cover the twist for aesthetics and strength.

Ted - or solder the twist to hold it. Sorry the fishing weights didn't work out. In retrospect, they might've worked if some of that epoxy was applied into the split before crimping.
